I read every post in GD on the vote cancellation and
feel extremely upset. People here generally seem to believe that the right wing is manipulative, thieving of money and elections, and simply a propaganda machine for "evil". I happen to think those things, and feel betrayed by the fool who wrecked the vote today. He has nothing in common with me regarding beliefs as to how others should be treated, and that is a basic tool I use to evaluate other people who enter my life in general.

Anyone who wants to vent (without a cuss-fest, keep it civil), this is an opportunity.

I have found in the past few years that it is indeed possible to hate with a passion people I do not even know personally because of their actions. Today, another one was added to the list.

3. Um, what did I miss? Please fill me in...please
how could one poster shut down a poll on DU?

Please, I just got online and haven't been to GD - and really don't want to right now...

Please, give me the short and sweet or unsweet of what you're talking about...

Danke very much

I think Skinner, EarlG and Elad have every right to outrage, anger, legal action if they choose, and feelings of betrayal.

But the membership of DU in general, - we'd be over the top to be feeling anything more than betrayed and a mite pissed off. It cost us time, satisfaction, and a feeling of trust was breached. In my book that's not cause for hate.

I realise this group is more sensitive than most on the subject of having their votes hijacked. ;-) But there's only so much hate I want to experience in life, and I'm saving it up for perfidious bastard Republicans just now.

The perpetrator of these acts was for some length of time a productive member of these boards and made many friends here. I was never more than mildly aware of him. Yet, out of consideration for those who were close, those who have a claim on the highest hurt and feelings of betrayal, I'd request folks not discuss or trash RN. Let's leave it for the Administrators to deal with as they feel appropriate, and those most stung to sort out their emotions without a posse of hostile villagers bearing torches.

When I read admins posts, I felt outraged. But, when I read nerd's apology, I felt sorry for him. Tho I do think he should drop the pretense of helping DU discover the bug, I'm sure he regrets what he did. he's absorbing a lot of anger right now. He brought it on himself, and he deserves it, but that's a tough place to be. My heart goes out to everybody involved.

9. If that's not how my message came across, then
it wasn't clear enough. No hostile villagers wanting to chase down the monster. Simply a method for venting. Not needed, maybe.

10. a different take on things
I don't really care that much that the voting was disrupted, because I thought it was a not great idea to change the rules on the gd board in the first place. So I even enjoyed that this person delayed voting on something that I didn't agree with, in a way. I just feel that we are in a period of stress and repression (in the U.S. of A.), and that these boards and others like them should continue to be a sounding board for people. Too many rules can bottle up the expression of ideas. Even though there are some problems with threads, and whatever, it's really not that bad. It is possible to only read what interests you, and anyway, it won't be that long until a dem candidate is nominated, and that will auto cut down the threads.
