5. We will, but only after we've moved to a different house
The street in front of this one is (literally) a real killer. It's kind of a major street, but it has 2 lanes, it goes through a residential neighborhood, but I swear everyone drives it at 40-50mph.

8. The cat we had before her stayed indoors, too
I think it drove that other cat insane; she started getting real hostile towards my wife and son, and extra-posessive of me. But she kept getting in fights with the neighborhood cats, and showed so little common sense that we had to keep her indoors. Eventually we gave her to a retired person as a companion.

But this kitty? There was no way we could have kept this stray cat inside. She had places to go and things to see. Total free spirit. I just know she would have made a run for it if we'd tried to keep her inside.

2. I wonder if your kitty has met up with the late Beans yet in kitty heaven?
Beans died about a year and a half ago. Sorry for your loss.

3. Probably just now, cos she's been hanging out around here in spirit
I swear, for the first three or four days, everyone in my family could still feel her running around the house, purring. It's just now that she's started to dissipate.

4. My sympathies, O. I know how special our cross-species friends are...
They come and they go, there is great joy and heartbreaking loss. Our lives are all the richer for having been good to these little guys.

7. She showed up in our backyard, real thin, about 2 months ago
Not much fur, either. I figured it was a breed thing, and she was a domestic shorthair, but she looked almost like a sphynxcat or an abyssinian at first. There was no question that she was adopting us, tho. She had a way of getting right through a person's defenses. My wife was kind of ambivalent at first, saying that the cat couldn't come inside and all that. But she cracked after one day, and the kitty was hangin' out with her everywhere. :D Smart cat, real inquisitive, spent a lot of time standing on her hind legs checking stuff out.

Somehow, we knew she wouldn't be around long, and that we couldn't keep her indoors. She had a lot of turf to cover, may have been visiting several other friends in the neighborhood.

Those are the best pets, the ones that seem to have a real purpose, even if they don't stick around long enough. She changed all of us, and left the world.
