A childhood friend died.
We had not been in touch for ten years. All the more terrible, then, to open my newspaper and see her obituary. She succumbed to cancer at age 40, leaving behind a husband and three young children, even a grandmother.

We were close friends in fourth grade. She was straight and I was wacky--she the Zeppo to my Groucho. But she was fun, and even then, a fundamentally decent human being. We were the only two kids in our class who supported McGovern for President. All the other kids backed Nixon.

So here's to you, Andrea. I hope there are swimming pools, vinyl 45s, Barbie dolls and jacks, and dip-top cones in Heaven.

Sorry for your loss, and especially for her husband and children. Very sad.

RIP, Andrea. Any McGovern supporter is a friend of mine.

My sympathy to you and her family on her passing. Too young. I'm glad you have good memories.

12. Mikimouse happens to know that I speak Hungarian too.
"The body stays here, but the soul goes home."

"Thank you for your condolences. I hope her soul has truly gone home. (and that there's ice cream there.)"

"I hope it's good Hungarian ice cream, and not the stuff you find here. Mmmmmm, the Tatabanya sweet shop!"

8. Sorry for your loss
But when you said you and her were the only two McGovern Supporters in your Class I thought of my Grandfather, who all through the 1930s reminded people in Jeanette Pennsylvania that he was one of only two people to vote for Al Smith in 1928 (Hoover Beat Smith that year nationally for the Office of President of the United States. For you people who have forgotten your history 1929 was the Crash, and 1930 was the start of the Great Depression.

9. I Lost My Mom 7 Months Ago
If it helps, "they're never lost if they've made a difference."

It sounds like your friend made a difference....

Remember that if nothing else.
