Could someone please explain something to me????
Why would anyone actually enjoy hurting someone who has done nothing to hurt them?
Why do some people get their kicks stirring up trouble when it's none of their business?
Why are some people just down right mean?

2. It's work stuff.
I'm lucky it's not directed at me, but a nice coworker. Just because she is a not like the "click" she is picked on & treated like crap. The latest bushit is over such little, nit picky stuff & she is dealing with a terminal family member. It just makes me want to cry.

5. Are you able to defend her?
I can't watch someone get picked on without defending them, but that is just my bossy personality.

10. Last time I stood up for her, she just got in more trouble for
"talking about a private conversation with another employee".
Of course these people talk & laugh about it all the time.
Aaaaarrrrrrrgggggggggggggg

14. Can the two of you go and complain to your HR department
about a hostile work environment? (I hope you don't work in your company's HR department.)

Is the supervisor in on the bullying?

Can you figure out who the rest of the decent employees in your department are and get them together to gang up on the bullies?

Just brainstorming here.

6. mean people suck
Mean, petty, small, immature people. Thoughtless people without a clue as to what is important in life. Without a clue as to WHAT LIFE IS.

I am sorry for your co-worker and you. Good luck, RR.

7. It's the Bully Syndrome
Some people perceive others as weak and vulnerable and harangue and harrass them incessantly. These people are cowards of the worst order. I wish you didn't have to work with so many republicans. The workplace in general was my biggest aggravation. I retired five years ago at age 56 and am glad I did. The only thing I am grateful to my former employer for is that they made it easy for me to retire. I'm not a cynic but I don't miss most of the assholes I was forced to work with.

16. Sounds exactly like my X place of employment
She needs to document this stuff, write it all down when she gets home. What she documents today could be very useful to her at sometime in the future. I tell ya mean people just plain suck don't they!

You might consider mentioning this site about Workplace Bullying. She just might find it to be quite handy about now  Poor girl has enough to cope with just dealing with a dying family member.

4. Because so many people in our world
were raised by the emotionally immature. And now the new generation of emotionally immature bullies have their own shows on TV and on the radio, so now everyone thinks it's perfectly okay to treat those who are different like complete shit. We have lost all civility.

Your poor co-worker. Can you you help and stand up for him/her?

And I've never understood it. This upsets me, as well.

12. that sounds like a situation I was in at Nordstrom
I was the 'uncool' one. They spent so much time trying to drag me down, making stuff up about me, and writing me up for it.

I pretty much rebel against being bullied, or seeing others being bullied. I kicked their asses. The best thing I had was a pal who was a supervisor. She protected me whenever possible. Her advice to me which was as invaluable as her friendship was "Keep a log of everything untoward." A friendship and a personal journal were my best weapons of defense.

Document every insult, every bit of pettiness. Take it to someone higher up.

18. Or wait til you are accused of shit
which, as the brunt of the bullying, was when I showed it. They backed off when they realised my record keeping was better than theirs. They accused me of shit that happened on my day off, for example. I sat there and let them lay it ALL out. then asked "You stand by these statements 100%?" "Yes" "The 10th was my day off. I couldn't possibly have done what you said. Anything else? No? Well, you better get out there and find the person who did those awful things!"
