1. Some Dollar Store pillars and scented candles are pretty good.
The 99 cent glass scented ones seem fairly good.

Not familiar w/ Votivos, but would give 'em a try. Are you a massage therapist or something?

7. Cheap candles burn better and slower
if you put them in the freezer for at least 4 hours prior to using them. Crafts stores are a good place to look for decent candles at good prices. I got tapers (before Xmas) at a craft store for 4/$1 and I didn't notice a major difference between those and the ones I for which I paid > $1 ea.

12. I make my own for emergencies, with a soda can, old sock and veg oil
Know it's not what you want, but it's useful for emergency lighting if anyone needs it.

  1. cut the soda can in half
  2. put a few slits in the lower half, then fold around the rim so it doesn't cut you.
  3. work the pop-top piece off of the top of the can
  4. take an old sock, cut a strip off, roll it up, and stick it in the hole of the pop-top lever thingie, with about a quarter inch exposed on what will be the "top" side and the longer part on the bottom.
  5. put some oil in the bottom of the can, put the lever/wick contraption in, let it soak up some oil, and light.

works even better if you have something the lever can float on.

13. Have a Partylite Candle Party
I used to sell these and they are really great candles. Kind of pricey, but if you have a party at your home or office, you get 25% of your total show sales in free candles. The average show when I sold it was about $400, so you would get $100 free. All you would have to pay is s&h.
