Ricky Williams - not your ordinary football player.
I don't know a whole lot about football, but my brother has been going on and on about Ricky Williams, a star football player who quit playing before the season started and went of to a place in Northern California to study Ayurveda.

60 Minutes did an interview with him, and I find it really sad that the video for this interview can be found on a humor site:

I didn't laugh the whole time, although I was smiling, because I was happy for Ricky Williams.

But are there really assholes out there who find this hilarious?

1. Ricky is a strange cat....
I have followed Ricky William's football career right from the start of his college football days at UT-Austin. Around Austin, he was always portrayed as a kind and gentle soul with a unique way of looking at things. Ricky has always done his own thing, and I certainly respect that.

BUT, Ricky did the 'Fins wrong when he retired the way he did this season. He's free to make his own decisions, but he was under contract. He called his coach a few days before pre-season practice and walked away. He then led the NFL and his agent to believe that he wanted to return to the game after serving the league-mandated suspension, but he walked AWAY again.

It's a much longer story than that, but that's the gist of it.

I wouldn't laugh at Ricky, but I don't respect him much. Ricky is all about Ricky. His decisions affected a lot of people besides himself. I don't know the man, but judging by his public actions, he has an awful lot to learn about accountability.

I'm hoping he works his issues out and is able to reconcile himself with his decisions.
