It seems that every member of DU has a dossier... if not on freep, then some other conservative site.

For example: I found out last week that a freep was keeping track of a dispute I was having with a mid-level manager back six months ago! Hell, even I forgot about it!

What I can't understand is: Why?

It's like finding out your neighbor collects drier lint as a hobby. It makes no sense.

I found a thread on Free Republic once where they had gotten their mitts on a list of people who had signed up to participate in a peaceful demonstration against the Iraq war. This was a list of people who had registered on the website of an anti-war group organizing the protest, and one of the Freepers somehow hacked it and got the list of people. This list had their names, their addresses, and (for some reason) some of these people had listed their employer- one guy was in the military, one owned a business and had listed that, etc.

Anyway these Freepers were passing the list around, posted it in this thread I was reading, and set about trying to get these people on the list harrassed and fired. They were applauding each other and talking about ways to mess up the lives of the people on this list and discussed who had done what to which person on the list.

One Freeper woman contacted the military guy's superiors and gleefully notified them that so-and-so was going to protest the war while being in the military and shouldn't he be court-martialled or something? And then others did the same thing to the same guy and were hell-bent on ruining his career.

Etc.

Having a Freeper get hold of your personal information is not good. They are the scum of the earth.

I'm searching Free Republic for it but I can't remember the thread title but I just started looking and don't plan on giving up too quickly. I do see their messages go back to 2002 so unless they took it down, it should surface sooner or later if I can find the right terms to search with.

Isn't that bizarre? And it's a true story.

And, I had just decided out of the blue to search my screen name, about 2 days after he had done this. So when I raised hell and humiliated him on the RW message board, he was stunned- stupid ass couldn't figure out how I knew he had done it.

The end result, I reported it to the moderator, and the whole friggen crazy-fundy board was shut down forever.

I am praying that someone reading this will be willing and able to assist me. I desperately need to get myself out of a very bad relationship. I have stayed much too long already and things are getting worse. Due to the abusive nature and circumstances of the relationship, I have no friends or family that can help me. I went to a women's shelter, but ended up going back to the house a few hours later because I could not bear to leave my cats. They have been my only friends and family for years, and have been my only source of love, so to leave them there is not an option for me. I tried finding them temporary foster homes or, in desperation, good permanent homes, so I would know they are alright and loved, but have exhausted all options - I cannot find anyone to take them in. I have no resources of my own. The person I am trying to leave has taken all of my money, and ruined my credit, among other things, and I am literally at the end of my rope. I've found some pretty funny RW stuff doing that, too. There's one guy out there who actually went to the trouble of requesting one of my unpublished novels in order to read it and write what I'm sure he thought was a scathing 'review' of it, which he then sent to a RW website called Four Right Wing Wackos.

It was such an unintentionally hilarious hatchet job that I wrote up a response and posted it in my livejournal. However, a couple days later I took it down because some friends of mine had googled this guy and what they turned up made him look so sad and pathetic that I didn't feel it was ethical to mock him any more. Among other things, his claim that he was a published author actually meant that he had been taken in by one of the many editing/publishing scams out there that bilks aspiring writers by promising to publish your work just as soon as you pay them hundreds or thousands of dollars to 'edit' it. Then there was the fact that he has set himself up in business as a 'paranormal consultant' and is running around giving people advice about how to deal with UFO abductions and poltergeist visitation. By the time I was done with *his* Googleography, I was convinced that he was actually clinically mentally ill, and unlike some folks on the right I've never been into beating up on the disabled.

Made me wonder how many other RW sites out there are run by people who really should be in treatment.
