Is pot really that bad?
Here's the thing. I just quit smoking cigarettes and feel pretty confident that I can stay away from those. Now I am thinking that I should quit drinking beer, too, because I drink almost every day (even though I only have about 3 in a sitting). Can't I have some pot?

Geez, I don't want to have to go through life with NO fun. I just want a little bit in the evenings. It's not like my whole life would be pot, pot, pot!

Help me out here.

I am all for legalizing it.

8. I'm a scared of the coppers--and am I the only person who doesn't know whe
re to buy it?

If I wanted to buy pot right now I don't have a clue where I'd go.

Anyway, the fact that it's illegal scares the shit out of me, actually, and I have enough problems without keeping an illegal substance in my house.

If that doesn't bother you, sure, be free.

it depends on where you live, but here in SoCal you just get a citation - unless of course you have a whole trunk full of it!

Most of they time they wouldn't even bother going after you.

In somes states, I think they take it a bit more seriously. I suspect there is a direct correllation between those states and the red ones on the election map.

17. Yes, it is: Think of two things.
First, even though you might think this an evil of the law rather than of pot itself, you don't want to get busted. Your file could land on the desk of some ADA who is bucking for a run at state legislature, and suddenly your half ounce has a "street value" of ten thousand bucks.

Second, you are putting something in your body of completely unknown provenance. You wouldn't buy food or drink from someone who was completely unregulated and unknown, and who got HIS supply from someone completedly regulated and unknown. In other words, there's an excellent chance you aren't smoking only pot. I knew a guy who would only buy organically grown produce but bought shit from some dude he only knew by his alias and beeper number. He probably ingested more chemicals in a single toke than I did with all the california lettuce I ate in a year.

FDA approved THC for human consumption years ago. They did all the standard tests, it's fine.

As for the law, that's irrelevant.

Well, maybe if some crazy lady injects them with poison and gives them to trick-or-treaters or if you import them into an area illegally because of a quarantine due to apple maggot infestations and you end up going to jail for it.

Sure. Apples are horrible.

24. Yeah, if you by them from a supply chain of six people
you don't know, and who live outside any regulation, damn straight apples can be bad for you.

Nobody even knows the carcinogens in tobacco cigarettes. Nobody even knows the secret additives. But marijuana is safer because...

I guess it is a special brand of naivete to assume that the growers and suppliers of dope are cool, just like the consumers, and not heavily armed businessmen working for profit. I wouldn't assume that about apple growers.

27. If you think you know what's in the food you buy,
you should read Fast Food Nation. Smoking pot can't be as bad as eating meat with feces/tumors/diease in it.

Also, there is a study that found jet fuel on organic lettuce. I have it somewhere in an old Worldwatch magazine. If your really interested, I'll look it up.

My point is that knowing your source doesn't mean crap when the source is corporate.

46. And where can I read up on what's in the pot I buy?
And who gets punished if it makes me sick?

I guess the fact that there isn't ANY study, ANY law, or ANY disclosure leads to the inescapable conclusion that it must be safer.

After all, corporate food producers are only seeking profits, whereas growers and distributors of marijuana are doing it out of the love of the consumer and would never do anything except provide the finest product at the cheapest price. How naive.

18. no. There is nothing wrong with pot
Alcohol slows your metabolism and you could gain weight because of that.
Also, I went through a period where I was drinking 3-4 beers a day, and I seriously stood back and look at my reasons for drinking (hated working at Nordstrom). Then I stopped it. Because I like to drink, but I decided when I was in my teens, I like alcohol so much, I never wanted to drink so much I HAD to stop.

There may be a lung thing, but really, unless you are a total chron, you probably could not smoke enough pot to damage your respiratory system like smokes do.

20. Marijuana is safer than......
Alcohol, tobacco, even Tylenol in the long run. You cannot ingest enough marijuana to overdose no matter how much you try.

It is not physically addictive, but it can become mentally addictive.

But truth be known Marijuana presents less danger overall than almost anything you doctor would normally prescribe you.

Also yes smoking it may have some bad effects on your lungs, but there are vaporizers that don't burn the vegetable matter but heat the trichomes(resin glands) till the vaporize. The theres also cannabutter and oils you can use to ingest it through the digestive tract. So you can get high without smoking ;)

50. I'm not a fan of pot or tobacco
I don't like the smell of either. I was a big smoker (of both) in my high school, college and law school days. After quitting, I find it difficult to be around people smoking either. As long as you not smoking pot or tobacco around me (the whole second hand smoke thing bothers me more than some) do whatever floats your boat. No one should care, unless you become violent or destructive when you are high.

Good luck with the smoking and drinking. I had a hell of a time giving up tobacco. If you can do both, your lungs and liver will be better in the long term. I'm still a big drinker (Only a few times a month. I keep it to 5-6 in one session, but that is still far too much).

54. Smoking pot.
There is some evidence that marijuana may have some detrimental effects when used "chronically", i.e. everyday - short-term memory loss and possible reproductive sterilization. However, there haven't been any rigorous tests because nobody will fund that type of research. Marijuana is baaad, baad, remember?

You can be assured, however, that marijuana is less harmful than alcohol on your body.

I would assume you quit smoking because it is bad for your lungs. This is true of marijuana as well, especially since it is smoked without a filter. Smoking anything damages the lungs, and thus a possible carcinogen with chronic use.
