Sonic Youth fans unite!
I'm sitting here listening to "Schizophrenia" and thinking about what a beautiful song it is. I know there's a lot of SY haters out there, but I know there's got to be some love for them here at DU as well.

So let's chat about how much we love Sonic Youth. And how about those slick Lee Renaldo songs that show up on every album (the ones where he sings.) I love those especially..."Mote", "Wish Fulfillment"...good stuff.

1. I like their albums
But I saw them backing the Stooges in 2003 in Detroit and the set was almost IDENTICAL to when I saw them in 1996, complete with the stupid guitar swordfight. Reminded me of the Cars or something. I mean, they sounded great, but you could have just played their album and got the same effect.

5. well, that's a good CD
to be stuck on anyway! It's one of my favorite CDs of all time. "Dirty Boots" is another beatiful song. And I'm fascinated by Kim Gordon's fascination with Karen Carpenter (ex: "Tunic") Did you ever hear the SY version of the Carpenters' "Superstar"? Thurston sings on it, and in the video Kim plays drums...pretty cool.

3. I love Sonic Youth!!!
They were my favorite band in high school. I've seen them live 5x, a personal record for me. Lee is the man! He smiled at me once, when I saw them live, as I think I was the only one screaming his name. Ohh that brings back memories...I was such a groupie...I even wrote an essay on Kim Gordon, for a placement test.

7. Ha ha, that would be me
screaming for Lee, too! :-)

But sadly, I have yet to see them live. They're on my list of must-sees though!

6. I love 'em, have since EVOL.
"Bad Moon Rising" is still my fave, though. A totally unfuckwithable record, that.

9. Big fan here
I'm glad that they're returning to form somewhat. Sister and Daydream Nation and Goo are all so good...and then came Jet Set Trash and No Star (I may have that title wrong. I've tried to forget it!)

But Murray Street and Sonic Nurse were both great!

I saw them again in Central Park last summer and was again blown away by their live sounds.

11. Experimental Jet Set...
Yeah, I didn't really get into that one either. Although I did like the video for "Bull in the Heather" with Kathleen Hanna dancing around...it was silly, but cool.

Sister, Goo, and Dirty are my personal favorite CDs.

15. "Bad Moon Rising," "EVOL," and "Sister"
are among the best three-consecutive-records-by-a-given-artist ever.
