Herman Edwards (Jets Coach) Needs to be Fired
Edited on Mon Sep-29-03 10:20 AM by Beetwasher
I could maybe let it pass that he's now 0-4, but that 4th down call yesterday could be one of the worst decisions I've ever seen made in football. WTF was he thinking? His judgement has to be seriously questioned. First of all, the decision to go for it on 4th down was just plain stupid. You go for the field goal and the sure thing, end of story. Second of all, he couldn't have called a worse play. What sort of idiot calls a play on 4th down in which the reciever is supposed to catch the ball a good 3 yards BEHIND THE LINE FOR THE 1ST DOWN!!! WTF?!?! That's how that play is set up, that wasn't a mistake by the reciever. Worst. Call. Ever.

1. People fail on fouth down
so what? If he would of completed he would be a hero, now he should be fired? Didn't the Jets start off slow last year and still made the playoffs?

4. They needed two scores
a touchdown and a field goal. You go for the field goal in that situation. Even if he made it, I would have still thought it was a bad call. The play he called was also just plain awful. Terrible call all around, his judgement is questionable IMO.

7. You need to go for it to give your guys a chance
Edwards is a good coach with alot of passion, they released Coles and Pennington is injured, I recall, didn't the Jets go 0-5 last year to reach the second round of the NFL playoffs?

9. Yeah, they started out shitty last year too
I know Pennington being injured hurts them, but Vinny's been playing pretty well. The Releasing Coles was just stupid.

I disagree about going for it on 4th for several reasons. By not going for the field goal it sends a message to the offense that you don't have confidence in them to get down there again. It was a LONG 4th down. And finally as I've said before, the play that was called might have been an even worse decision than the decision to go for it in the first place.

2. Paul Hacket is the one that has to go - he's sucked for years
The shame of it is Vinnie is playing well enough that they should be winning.

I'm also still pissed they let Hall and Coles go. Especially Coles, he and Pennington were the franchise.

3. Coles was good
what a boneheaded move, but I am usto to seeing the Cardinals do it. Simeon Rice, Garrison Hearst, David Boston, Kwamie Lassiter, Aneas Williams, and Jake Plummer.

6. its not Herm's fault if Curtis Martin and Mo Lewis aged so quickly ...
their aging has been the only thing quick about either of them this season

8. Appalling
and they've been doing that shit all year...what the hell is the point of a pattern where the ball is caught SHORT of the down marker?

Offensive coordinator Paul Hackett should have been fired three years ago. Now I agree...Herm must go.

10. calm down
As a long-suffering Jets fan (what other type is there) I was glad they went for it.

I knew they weren't winning the game anyway. I just wanted the whole sorry game over with.

The closer this team comes to 0-16, the closer they come to the first overall pick in the draft.

Maybe the Jets can pick up a great RB, or a WR who can stretch the defense. But they need a LOT on offense.

Not to mention a linebacker, cornerback and defensive tackle (Dewayne Robertson is gonna be a bust).

11. Whoever let the Jetskins all go should be shot (ok maybe not shot but..)
Name ONE team in the league that can succeed with this type of offseason.

1- Your best wide reciever leaves, and is not replaced with another #1.

2- Your kicker leaves (keep in mind that a kicker decided most games in the NFL)

3- One of your best offensive lineman leaves

4- Your kick returner leaves

5- Your Quarterback gets injured

That is one of the worst offseasons in history if you ask me.

13. When does CHAD get back?
Chad heals many wounds. Like last year when He tokk a 1-4 club and got them into the playoffs, second round too.

Of course I'm sure Vinnie can do the same. :eyes:
