I Adore The Movie "Barbershop"...
I received the Barbershop and Barbershop-2 DVD's for Christmas gifts... and it's hysterical!! Have you seen it?

You can't help but to fall in love with the characters... Cedric the Entertainer's character "Eddie" just cracks me up! One of his more memorable (and irreverant lines)...

Eddie: There are three things that Black people need to tell the truth about. Number one: Rodney King should've gotten his ass beat for being drunk in a Honda a white part of Los Angeles. Number two: O.J. did it! And number three: Rosa Parks didn't do nuthin' but sit her Black ass down!

-- Allen

I'm looking forward to Queen Latifah's "spin-off" called "Beauty Shop".

2. Everytime I go to the video store, I wonder if I should rent them.
And based on your recommendation, I will.

Thanks

I like Michael Elay, I think that's his name. He's so cute! Don't know what his character name was.

13. If That's How It Was Characterized To You, Then You Were Short-Changed...
... I'm not sure who the "they" is you're talking about. It was actually one character's line when he went off on a mini-rant. I'd recommend actually seeing the movie before passing judgement on the entire thing based on the dialog of a cantankerous and feisty old Black man.

He also says "fuck Jessie Jackson" and in Barbershop-2 he almost starts-in on Luther Vandross... but his buddies just won't hear about that and they rush to Luther's defense.

14. Here's My Initial Reaction...
What's this? "Barbershop?" Ice Cube? Is that the rapper guy? Hmmm. I know I'm NOT gonna like this! Cedrick the Entertainer? What kind of stupid name is that? This is black humor... I'm just a white boy... I can't relate to this... this ain't gonna be funny... it's gonna be a waste of time, that's what it is. Hey! I wonder how much I can get for these on Ebay.

20. My big fat Greek Wedding....
Edited on Wed Jan-05-05 06:57 PM by AchtungToddler
.... was such a phenomenom around the same time.

W/o dissing MBFGW, which I enjoyed, I think it is telling that Barbershop, which was also a great movie (imo, MUCH better), and a cultural-slice-of-life", did not have the phenomenal success of Greek Wedding. In short, I think America has more latent racism than any of us would like to admit.

Barbershop II proved that Barbershop was not just a fluke, this team of writers/director/actors has storytelling talent.
