Seriously. Thy can tell me to get one, but it's pointless if they don't tell me how - since it's obvious that I don't know how because I don't have one.

1. It,....
means that you need to do something with your life...there is life, as in a heartbeat, and then life as in living for a purpose.

3. LOL!
I'm not quite sure, because I look at the lives of the ones who tell me that. I'm SURE not interested in their version of "a life."

On the other hand, when I realize that getting that little "1000+" next to my name is a BIG GOAL, I think I might understand just a little what they mean.

4. It means you need good sex in your life because you're so uptight.

5. Yeah, that sounds right...
Where do I go to get good sex? I've tried phone- and internet-based dating services... People seem to avoid me at bars, and that's fair because I have this persona that intimidates people with its inherant nervousness...

6. I never tell people to "get a life"
I'd never want to be accused of influencing someone to become a serial killer...

And I'm pretty sure you're not also undead (even if you just might be goth). I've always wondered about some folks and their assumptions when they say things like that.
:silly:
On the slightly serious side, I've figured out when most people say that, they're just not so politely indicating that they have no idea where you're coming from, and chances are, they don't care.

If you're happy with what you're doing, shrug them off. If not, it's up to you to decide if you want to take the time to understand whats going on and figure out what needs to be done to have things go the way you want to - but always remember, be careful what you want - it might not be what you really need...
Peace out -
Haele

When i tell someone to get a life.. they are normally babbling about, making no point, or arguing something really stupid that nobody cares about

10. My thoughts as well!
Whenever somebody realizes that I know fifty times more than they do: "Get a life"!"

When somebody realizes that i spend my time reading and posting on DU: "Get a life!"

When somebody realizes that I'm interested in politics: "Get a life!"

9. yet another interpretation (actually several)
Introverts routinely get told it by extroverts. Extroverts don't understand the world of thinking and books.

Sometimes it's a sign that you need something in your life besides video games or computers or DU.

Sometimes it's because you actually have a life and they're jealous and trying to drag you into the quagmire of their mindnumbing bar hopping.

11. As far as I can tell...
it seems to mean "stop wasting your own time on things that I don't personally approve of"

12. "You have violated my belief system;"
"therefore, I am offended and am categorizing and labeling you in my mind. I command you to 'get a life' in an attempt to control you and force you to comply with my beliefs."

Personally, I like " I resent you for (whatever you did or said that offended me)." More honest.

the tv show tape trading listserv - but thanks to new fascist laws coming in 2006, that listserv will go under...
