West Wing fans... what do you think of the show this season?
After the dismal season last year (Sorkin's writing was missed), I have to admit that the show has picked up steam this year. No, the dialogue isn't as crisp as it was in the first four years, but by not allowing things to remain stagnant, the characters are shining again and my interest is back up. Sure, there's still some things that leave me scratching my head (how is C.J. the most qualified to be the new Chief of Staff?), but all and all I can look past them if it's entertaining.

As it stands now, it's looking like Jimmy Smits' character will be elected the new President next year (if the show returns), so thankfully the Democrats are still winning in some form of reality. Talk about great escapism from the real world...

2. The asteroid wasn't that bad.
Stuff like that happens every now and then in the real world too (just recently, in fact).

Although I did laugh at NBC's ridiculous commercial for that episode. I was half expecting Josh and Toby to rocket to the asteroid and blow it up with explosive devices, ala Armageddon.

4. I used to watch it without fail.
Last couple of seasons I have lost interest though. It's too much like a primetime soap opera now. The hell with it.

5. this season is going better than last so far
nothing as good as the first 3 seasons (just got them on DVD for christmas) -- Sorkin was great!

We'll see how the Smits/Alda thing goes but rumours have it Alda will be next -- as a moderate Republican with actual conservative (financial/governmental) views, not a right wing nutcase.

We shall see.

6. better than the last 2 years and some interesting changes in focus
never saw the WW until it showed on bravo, now am hooked.

early years seemed to focus on characters and somewhat static events and processes.

this year has focused less upon bartlett and what he does and more on passing the torch to another group of characters.

by doing so one sees each major character now not as "THE" president, vice president, press sec, chief of staff, etc., but as characters holding those posts in a dynamic process and soon to be replaced with other people over time.

it evokes a sense of pathos in me when i see bartlett crippled while others now jockey to gain his office and i recognize that all the things that character did and said will be swept away with the sands and time and replaced by someone new.

this shows the maturation of the show and the potential for it to become a show about government in process as never before.

and hopefully, sorkin can return to write again.
