3. it is a scam
They claimed that my mom, sister, and I all qualified with IQs in the 170s. Um, very flattering, but I don't think so. Do they realize how few people actually have IQs in the 170s? It is just a way to relieve people who need to be flattered of some cash.

I never paid anything to join. I loathed it and stopped any affiliation with it, but it didn't cost me a dime.

11. I qualify, and I went to a couple of Mensa meetings with a friend
And I'm a big nerd/geek, but the people in the club just came across as too socially inept for even me to want to get to know. One guy couldn't stop talking about his stereo which he put together from various components and how he had found the perfect spots to put the speaker and the perfect place to sit so that the sound quality was the best, etc. High IQ does not automatically equal interesting person or even intelligent person. It just means that you're able to do better on a certain type of test than most people.

Ooh boy...I don't think I'd ever go to a meeting. My Mensa membership has consisted of getting a newsletter, appeals for money, and fun word games in the mail. I am addicted to the games, so I keep my membership.

20. Touching On Inifinity Paradox Here
Ultimate verbal infinity is to avoid using the word "Man" and only the use the word "Woman". You can't.

Man, goes to Woman, But "woman" has a "man" at the end. So, that goes to WoWoman. But, that has the "m,a,n" at the end. So, one must go to WoWoWoman. And so on. The word because an infinite paradox.

word. One of women would be singular, thus woman, but not stated.

1) Boring
2) Insane
3) Scary
4) All of the above

and believed crystals could cure cancer...
horoscopes were both accurate and reliable...
and was working on becoming a practicing witch...note I did not say wiccan, I said witch.

This ain't envy talking, I was a merit scholar and all that.
High IQ didn't immunize me from acting stupid and it sure didn't help her.

Do they really teach telepathy??? I could dig that.

The whole idea of a "let's have a smart club and not allow others to join" is just ridiculous. I thought I'd give it a try, and it turns out they do nothing but talk about how great they are and how horrible everyone else is. Also, truly intelligent people don't need to be part of any group to know their own intelligence. It just reeks of insecurity.

25. *sigh*
OK, I always hate admitting this, but I used to be in Mensa. The magazine you got was all right, and at the age I was, I must confess I got a bit of a kick out of having the membership card in my wallet, but the actual gatherings were fucking intolerable. Buncha smart people tripping all over themselves to show off how smart they were. It was like "OK, you're here to begin with, so we KNOW you're friggin' smart, can we talk about some other shit, please?" Oh. and people from any given field would scoff at people from any other given field, which wrecked the whole "roundtable" idea of getting smarties together. I stopped paying dues after three years.

31. IQ is an outmoded concept.
I have far more respect for creativity and insight (wisdom) than I do for the recall and application of facts/data...but it's like anything else--people like numbers and categories.

Of course, that's important, but I've known people with very high IQs who couldn't come up with an original thought it they tried.

41. I think it all
depends on who makes up the tests. Who determines what is smart and what is dumb. You can design a test so that it will give you any answer that you want or exclude any one you don't want. I qualify but what does that exactly mean. I can't spell worth a s**t, and my short term memory is not what it used to be, so what exactly does this mesure? That is why I would never join.
