Put a tea pot full of water on the stove and let it steam. Your furnace removes the humidity from the air, causing the moisture on your skin to evaporate, making you feel colder than the ambient temp. Adding humidity alters that perception causing you to feel comfortable at a cooler temp.
This is also why you are comfortable in Palm Springs when it is 90+ outside. It's a desert. There is no moisture in the air and you don't feel hot.
From someone who's business it is to know these things.
It had unadjustable radiators that were on full blast all winter.. I had to open the windows during the day and sometimes at night. It was actually pretty nice with the winter breeze blowing in.
We have three computers running. My husband's monitor is fairly large. It makes the room at least a few degrees warmer than the rest of the duplex. Our bedroom and living do feel cold, but we have blankets to deal with that.
21. How is the insulation in the house? What about the windows?
If you have north facing and windward windows, put plastic or heavy drapes over them. Put any plastic on the inside. If you put it on the outside the wind will cause a racket.
