I'm completely freaked out.
I just found out I had a window peeper last night. Doesn't that just stink? I need to go to bed, but somehow I just can't do it. Hmmmmm.

1. report it to the police
you might feel better and the cops will appreciate you for it.

Get a can of pepper spray. Don't want to scare you but sometimes this is a prep for a more serious crime. (only sometimes, but you want to have some protection if you are surprised by an intruder.

2. Indeed
Report it to the police. Peepers are notoriously creatures of habit, they'll watch and he'll come back and get caught.

3. I've got it covered in both areas.
I called the police and they're sending extra patrols with a spotlight, I have both the front and the back porch lights on. Luckily, I've got enough outside furniture that I've managed to fix it so that no one can get close to the window back there anymore. And I've got weird windows, they are from the 1940's and they are hinged in the middle, so there is no way a grown up can get in a window without me getting out first. And I have pepper spray. :-) But I'm still freaked out because I know this could just be the beginning. Heck, I might be moving now...we'll see.

5. One thing that discourages a peeper is a very prickly hedge.
I planted holly around all the bedrooms in my last house. The hedge grew to about 4' wide by 5' high - it'd take a really thick-skinned asshole to get through that.

Good that you have pepper spray. Keep a heavy object close at hand as well (a baseball bat works pretty good) unless you have a gun.

4. lights
lights always help...What I do...since I don't like wasting electricity, is unscrew 3 out of the 4 lightbulbs in the room near the front of the house, and leave the one light on all night...also leave the front and back porch lights on. Criminals don't want to be seen...Your best bet is to keep the perimeter of your house BRIGHT, and one or two lights on the inside make it a done deal...Even the most bold pervert/burlar will not mess with you if they think you are home and awake.

9. Pepper spray and dogs....
are fine for your casual kind of bad guy. Both have drawbacks: dogs are easy to kill or lock up (I've never met a dog yet that could open a door), and pepper spray is ineffective on a fair number of people (like folks with military training or people on drugs). If the person peeping is a seriously bad guy, you might check into getting a gun and learning how to use it. If you seriously consider this option, check your local and state laws, and obey them. Also, just buying a gun isn't enough...you've got to practice with it, so that using it is easy for you. You need to learn how to store it safely, ESPECIALLY if you have kids. And, of course, if you don't think you could shoot somebody to protect yourself, don't get one. A gun isn't something to threaten somebody with, it's meant to be used as intended in an emergency. I'd recommend a 16 gauge shotgun loaded with "birdshot".

10. Just remember...
If you purchase a firearm for personal safety, you'd best be aware of the local laws on excessive force. If the peeper is outside of your home and presenting no "immediate danger" and you use a firearm, you could be in deep, deep trouble.

Best bet...call 911 immediately. Let the RECORD show you tried to obtain help. If you are security mindfull, keep all doors, windows and such securely fastened. Also--KEEP YOUR DRAPES DRAWN. There are many states that have some really weird laws in that regard. Make sure you are aware of yours.

I hate those freaks, but we have to deal with them. Like any other sick individual.

11. Make sure you have your gun closeby
If he brakes in your only hope is your handgun, and dont hesitate to shoot him either.

12. Better than a handgun is a shotgun
A twelve gauge(either double barreled or pump) shotgun is recommended by all the experts(including police groups and the NRA) for home defense. You don't have to aim as much and are pretty much assured to hit your target. Plus handguns are easier to wrest away from you and be used against you.

13. Also the sound alone of a shotgun
being readied to fire will scare the bejeebers out of anyone. If they aren't heading out the door when they hear that sound in the dark they deserve to be shot.

Good luck to you and let's just hope that it was a one time deal and your peeper won't be back.

15. ITA
When I was single I kept a 20 gauge loaded and ready. Wish it was a 12 gauge, but I couldn't be choosy. Besides, a criminal is going to be pretty reluctant seeing that big gun that spreads its shot.

14. oh COME on! A peeper is FUN! He wins when you are scared!
Think about it; a guy SO pathetic he gets his kicks checking out chicks through windows? He doesn't qualify as a man!

Grab a rake or a shovel and run after him yelling "COME HERE AND GET IT PUSSY BOY!" at the top of your lungs! Take the power back darlin! He will run and never come back. Keep a can of mace handy just in case, but take BACK the power baby. He's a wimp, a child, a measly little boy who has an inadequate dick.
