I have a question for Muslims who watch the Daily Show
especially non-American Muslims.

How funny do you find the various comments made during the "This week in God" segments?

Like the typical running gag of...

Stephen Colbert: *God machine noise finishes* ... Islam: *totally deadpan serious* A great religion for which I have the deepest respect.

And other running gags like that in that segment where they put extra emphasis on being polite to seemingly avoid being blown up.

I think it is pretty funny and I was wondering how it played in the Muslim world -- if at all.

1. I'm not Muslim but

I can pretty much guarantee it didn't play well.
All Muslims don't blow people up. They'd resent the broad association between their religion and terrorism.

I love Jon Stewart, and I laugh along with him. But culturally sensitive it's not.

3. That is pretty damn sickening
He can be a bastard.
This is why I don't watch him.
When he starts spending equal time talking shit about likud, let me know. I still won't watch him.

8. he makes fun of Jews ALL THE TIME
though I don't remember any specific jokes about Likud. He must have made some though, since everything on that show is a joke.

4. I'm an atheist but I used to be a serious Catholic
and if there had been a Daily Show when I was religious, I'd have been pissed off at This Week in God overall, because to that mindset, it is completely disrespectful to all religions. OTOH, it is impossible to make any joke about any religion without pissing someone off, so you might as well just make the jokes.

6. Not a Muslim but....
The peaceful and terrorist Muslims are the yin and yang of the very dualism that monotheism abhors.

11. I think you miss the point...
Jon is satarizing the xian-fundies like Dubya who pay lipservice to respecting Islam, and then decclare we are "on a crusade."
