Yesterday we had 72 volunteers clean up 22.5 miles of shoreline of 2889.8 pounds of debris from Wolf Bay (Alabama) this year. We had more large pieces of piers and building materials than ever before. Pressure treated lumber continues to leach chemicals into the water for quite a while. All cans and bottles (MANY) will be recycled.

The most interesting finds were a message in a bottle and one written on a piece of board.

The one in the bottle came from Destin, FL, about 200 miles away. A woman dying of cancer asked her sister to send it out.

The one written in magic marker on the board was from an 8 year old girl in Orange Beach, AL, about 10 miles away.

Volunteers received the way cool 2003 Coastal Cleanup "Get the Trash Out of the Splash" T shirt and all the hot dogs they could eat. If you live near a body of water, this is a worthwhile one-day-only event to clean up our shorelines.
