Can anyone explain the "Face it - DU is dead" threads, and the ones where someone declares that they're leaving DU? I know they're copycats, but what prompted them?

I missed most of these too Bunny

every forum I have every taken a part in has people who "up and leave" and announce their leaving with a thread about how much things have changed.

the only forum I ever "left" was a knitting forum- b/c we got involved in some very heated discussing about the admendment to ban gay marriage and I just couldn't take knitting advice anymore from people who seemed to hate me so much. I still lurk there though.

Haven't seen any reason to leave DU...

2. I think the "I'm leaving DU" are also copycats today.

that's the link to the "OFF-TOPIC Enter at your own risk" stuff. Rather interesting, actually. At first I enjoyed participation in discussions with people who saw the world totally differently then me, then I just felt hurt.

3. At a few places I've been, they call them

"Goodbye cruel world" posts.

I have never placed a "goodbye" post anywhere. If I find a forum no longer fits my needs, I just go. I don't announce it.

6. There's one forum

I made a big stink about quitting. A lot of people were supporting this flamer who was trying very hard to humiliate me. I felt so rotten that I left, but not before making it clear WHY I left. Some people really are completely and totally nasty, without any kind of honor or morals at all.

4. Bile and Vitriol

From what I can gather, there is too much negative emotion, hate and bile on DU these days.

7. The "dead" threads were about how slow it was for Thanksgiving.

It was very slow yesterday, when I got back, so on Thursday it must have been zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz....

Only because I was spending so much time @ DU that it was affecting my work.
