For the love of god, someone please tell me
what happens in the movie The Village.

I begged last night and I beg today.

1. It turns out
that they've just been sequestered from modern reality, so some town elders can recreate a puritan society, or something like that, and the big bad demons in the woods are just people trying to scare the kids back into the house.

2. I'm game
I haven't seen it, but I was told the twist is, these folks are merely cut off from modern-day society - The "Monster"- and in the end they have to decide whether to remain in their primitive, isolated community or to join the 2004 world "out there." I heard the main character chooses the life of isolation.

The person who told me about it said it reminded her of the folks today who would rather conceive some fake "innocent" society rather than joining the "real world" to make it better. A fable about isolation and denial?

That's all I know.

5. Oh, you know that now you will only
find another question to nag at your gray matter!

"The insatiably curious can't get no----satisfaction."

6. Actually, let me explain it more detail.

It's not that modern day society is "the monster", exactly.
The town elders have had traumatic events happen to them (one's sister was raped and killed, etc.), and at least one of them was a sociology/history professor, so they came up with the idea of the "Village". So their kids don't have to deal with modern day pain. To the (modern) outside world, it looks like a wildlife refuge. It is patrolled by security and everything (the professor was rich LOL). You don't find that out till the end.

The elders construct the idea of 'monsters' so that no one will venture outside of the village. The monsters are scary costumes.
But someone needs medicine, so they send....I can get into it if you want LOL.

And they ALL decide to stay in the Village at the end. The elders, that is.

They never explain how ALL the adults are there, if they're in on it, or what, because when the 'monster' comes into the town everyone looks scared shitless. Maybe because they know there's no monster, so they're like, what the hell? Dunno.

It was good. Best of his work since Sixth Sense.

7. Now that I know what the twist is I will more than likely see it
when it comes out on DVD.

Thanks!
