Why do people think Smithers is a Republican?
Look at him, he's so gay! Like a gay man would vote Republican. Remember he deliberately sabotaged ultra-conservative Sideshow Bob's mayoral tenure because of Bob's views which conflicted with his "choice of lifestyle". He may be a Burns toady, but he has shown resilience when Burns goes overboard in his Blofeld-esque schemes to destroy the local school and such. Remember in Who Shot Mr. Burns Parts I and II? It's not like Smithers is a repressed gay who tries to delude himself into thinking he's straight and macho. Nothing could be further from the truth. He collects dolls, wears a pink robe, fantasizes freely about a 104 year old man, and goes to a gay resort.

6. Smithers is classic Log Cabin
we have a very dear friend who is gay and loves Bush. It's all about the money. Bush thrives on fear and as long as he can convince a segment of the population that the Dems will come in the night and empty their pockets, he'll get their votes. Even if the Bushies have no respect for homosexuals' rights and want to curtail their influence in our culture, there are gay people who will vote for the very people who might round them up and put them in camps. Because of money.

Lots of gay Republicans. Well, maybe not lots. But they're out there.

9. Speaking of Andrew Sullivan
I emailed him recently, to inform him that he was so up Bush's butt, that if Rick Santorum was named AIDS Czar, Sullivan wouldn't say a word.

10. Smithers WAS a Republican, but dropped out...it was revealed in the...
...episode where Sideshow Bob was elected Mayor of springfield, and Lisa and Bart investigated voter farud--Smithers was their version of Deep Throat and told that he could not longer be a Republican because of his "um, lifestyle choices."
