FUCKING HOUSE MUSIC
How the fucking fuck is anyone supposed to dance to that shit.

Just been to what used to be my favourite club (The Embassy on Essex Road, for any Londoners). I've had some of the best nights of my life there - back when they used to play funk, R&B and hip hop.

But now... THOOMP... THOOMP... THOOMP... THOOMP... KISS MY EVERLOVIN' ASS.

Holler if ya hear me.

1. LOL. House music sucks. And take that from a guy who digs
techno/trance and disco!

The 'house' genre, while similar to techno, feels manufactured and is utterly boring. And while I find it inappropriate to dance to socially aware music, I would readily dance to Public Enemy's "Welcome to the Terrordome" over any typical house track anyday! (I'm a PE fan so please don't think I'm being sarky!)

4. Welcome to the Terrordome fucking ROOOOLZ
Sorry, went a bit teenage there...

But it is a great song, second only to Who Stole The Soul?.

It's just the relentless 4/4 beat of house that I can't dance to. I like a bit of syncopation - that's why they call it 'funk', y'know?

23. Their album 'Fear of a Black Planet' has nary a bad tune on it. Did you
hear "Revolution Generation"?

Google up the lyrics. "America eats its young", as with many other lines, seems apropos today.

10. There Is House Music That Doesn't Suck, But You Won't Find it In Clubs
For that you have to go underground.

25. Bingo! There's one album in particular that is de facto...
There's a lot of underground that's awesome.

There was an underground dj... Oracle? They remixed some Madonna songs and made the album 'Mad on Her' - it was THE best music I'd ever heard.

But I got into the store just as the final one had been sold, when I heard the music and simply had to buy it because music that exceptional, as is love at first sight, a true rarity.

35. X kills -- avoid
I have a friend who was an X abuser "back in the day". he's totally fscked his seratonin receptors in his brain, and will probably have to take zoloft his entire life because of it.

House Music == 70's Giorgio Morodor Euro-Disco crap. Never could stand that bullsh!t. Never will. Gimme some ol' skool funk-n-music where the guys PLAYED ACTUAL INSTRUMENTS and wrote SONGS for fsck's sake.

..especially with a thumping beat.

But even on X (which I haven't done in years and years), to really move me I needed some sick ass breaks.

Breakbeat, drum & bass etc is OK with me daddy-o.

They did clinical trials of ecstasy and apparently it actually makes your heart beat in time to repetetive music like house. Given this fact, it's easy to see why other forms of music couldn't compete for a time. If you're on E (that's E, not X, stupid yanks), it literally is "the music of your heart".

If you're NOT on E (or X), it literally just sucks nuts.

That will move me just fine all by itself.

And that delicious place where psytrance and breaks come together...
YUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

There is something particularly mind-altering in its own right
about dancing to those twisted beats.

19. The Kids Need to Dance
Edited on Fri Nov-26-04 08:55 PM by AndyTiedye
The music never left, but you won't hear it on the radio.
That plays only what Clear Channel wants you to hear.

The regime WANTS to make the young insane, just before dropping them
into Iraq.

The ravers I know seem less succeptable than most to the sort of
insanity the BFEE is creating. This seems to cut across musical taste,
as it seems to be connected to the act of coming together and dancing.

Don't dis the ravers, register them to vote ;-)

20. A very nice point.
Edited on Fri Nov-26-04 08:51 PM by kiki
In the UK, dance music in general was seen as such a threat that new laws were put in place specifically to combat it.

Are hip hop kids these days similarly diasaffected? Not sure - hope so. And I don't want to offend anyone, but whenever I meet super-retarded 14-year-old aspiring freeper cannon fodder online, they're ALWAYS into what passes for 'punk' these days (recent Green Day notwithstanding)... particularly Limp fucking Bizkit.

70's music. She does come back to that once in a while. I only hope I've left an impression. I don't want to go to my grave thinking that she thinks that garbage is music that she listens to....

So I think forcing good music down their throats really made a difference.

My personal preference is for IDM (intelligent dance music; Apex Twin, Orb, Plaid, etc.)

36. sorry, but deep house is amazing
A lot of deep house currently infuses jazz, soul & funk elements. Very cool stuff.

Try Buzzin'Fly, Underdog, Lazy Dog, Miguel Migs, Kevin Yost, Johnny Fiasco, Julius Papp, Soulfuric, the Nude Dimensions / Bare Essentials SF series.

Smart music. More than meets the eye.
