Is anyone out there into Shabby Chic ?
Edited on Fri Nov-26-04 05:00 PM by Baja Margie
I'm redoing the whole house in Shabby. I love Shabby. My walls are going to be a dust rose pink, white enamel trim on the doors and woodwork. I'm buying really old antique plates like Nippon and Mason's, putting them in frames and on the walls, highlighting with green, lots of Victorian Kerosene Lamps, doilies, chenille, roses and flowers, and dashes of red and mauve and brown, plants in dark blue pots.

1. More shabby than chic.
But I love anything vintage. Esp mismatched fiesta ware dishes and bakelite flatware.

Thinking of doing my kitchen in a Vintage Chicken theme.

Right now it's in Semi-Trashy.

3. Oh there is someone !
I have mismatched Fiesta, but I'm upgrading it to Billingsley Rose circa 1928. I just love it, it's so homey and warm !

If you really want some Billingsley Rose, I have two extra plates you can have, really. PM your address to me, & I'll send them to you. These are the old mark, 1926, from England, so they've been through WWII. It will get you started. Margie

Sorry, no can do the chairs.

6. Yes!
My taste tends to run more in creams, rose, blues, and pale yellows rather than the stark white one often sees in shabby chic, but overall, most of the stuff is beautiful. Target carries a line of various linens based on Rachel Ashwell's designs. Oh, and anyone who knows me knows I love flowery stuff- preferably roses. Even a nice pastel toile is pretty gorgeous as well. :D

11. Flowery lap trays (the old ones)
are a great accent to shabby chic. The ones that have flowers or cute animals that have a black background are pretty easy to find and usually aren't very expensive. A touch of black brings out the other beautiful colors you have. Trays can also be beautiful shapes, too. You could put a collection on the wall if you wanted.

13. Look into Wabi-Sabi
The Japanese version of shabby chic, with their usual metaphysical spin.

14. Me
I love the shabby look. I used to decorate country, then Victorian. With shabby I can combine some of those things & it works well together.

Right now I am doing my bedroom. Lots of luxury linens mixed with some vintage ones. The muted colors of the vintage look well against the crisp white or cream of the newer items.

This is the bed I want to get:

I will probably not buy that one. Instead I will buy an older one to paint & add appliques to myself. That is part of the fun with shabby chic, I can do a lot of it myself.
