And I'm not Christian, but still celebrate Christmas.

Added, admire Jesus greatly even though I'm not a Christian and don't believe in his divinity. Don't have a problem with celebrating his birth, even though I know his actual birth date is not Dec. 25th.

9. The way I look at it..
Christmas is actually the continuation of the ancient feast day celebrating the harvest and the beginning of the new year.

Christianity is the johhny-come-lately interloper.

the winter solstice and the return of longer daylight time.

I think I read somewhere, (or perhaps it was from some Western Civ. college course...), that the Etrustcans celebrated the winter solstice in revering one of their deities for the return of light.
