I had a great time out tonight!
My friend and I went to see the play, "The Little Shop of Horrors," which is about this man-eating plant in a florist's store. I had seen the movie a long time ago, but had mostly forgotten what it was about. The play had me laughing so hard that it felt like my sides were going to burst, and afterwards, my friend and I discussed whether the play was meant to be a direct dig on the excesses of American materialism. Has anyone else here seen the play, "The Little Shop of Horrors?"

2. We did too, and needed it so damn bad
My Mom is in the hospital. She went in Monday afternoon and they wanted to get her stable to do surgery, she had a bad infection in her colon and they were going to remove part of it. Tuesday night as I was heading to bed early I called my dad to check on mom. He was stressed and said there was a problem and they were rushing her to OR. Apparently the infection burst. They did not hold out much hope she would survive the surgery (she is 69, only has one kidney, and has heart problems which had been fixed with a triple bypass but were still a concern).

She made it through surgery and is in ICU currently. She is recovering and her doctor said more than once that she is one tough old lady. Been hell seeing her like she is, hardly responsive, on dialysis off and on, on a breathing machine (though she is breating on her own mostly).

We went out tonight with my brother and aunt, let my daughter home with niece, nephews, and brother-in-law. We had a good time. My wife took all the kids to the conservatory earlier while I worked from home. All in all has been the best day I have had all week.

5. Hey, I feel for you, SS!
It's very hard to deal with a sick mom. Hang in there.

7. Thank You
I have a job I can work from home on so I did so most of this week. I really didn't care to drive to work each day and sit like a zombie staring at the screen.

This was sudden and very emotional to us all. My sister wanted to hold off on thanksgiving, but we convinced her not to. It is at our house this year - we bought the house next door to mom this year to be closer to her and so she could see her granddaughter. We have a lot to be thankful for, so whether or not mom is out of the hospital is not material, she is doing ok!

So next thursday we all come together to celebrate that which we give thanks for. Republican, Democrat, and other (my niece mainly) - from right wing religious to mid-wing religious to not religious at all, we feast together and give thanks that we are still here, still love each other, and that mom is OK.

6. Saw it years ago at Casa Manana here in FW
The stage play is a hoot.

But we are just total live theatre nuts in this household anyway.

This was the musical version, right?

10. There are 2 film versions
The original with Jack Nicholson from 1960 is far better...

The play was put on by my high school when I was there, early 80's... quite fun.
