Who else is missing hockey?
I'm heading to my folk's place next week. The past few years, it's become ritual to go down to the Joe and catch a Wings' game or two.

1. Me - although I can go watch minor league hockey.
I've never seen an NHL game - I really want to.

I miss the NHL on TV though. I miss Barry Melrose and John Buccigross.

22. You'll be playing what used to be the Indy Ice this year ....
The Corpus Christi Rayz.

Good goaltender (Zelenewich)
Good D (Bernie John - man can he skate !)
A volatile forward (Jason Baird - likes to mix it up, too)
and a couple hardworking ones (Dave Gilmore, et al)

Catch a game if you can !

Oh puhleeze...why can't they just be the Rays? :eyes:

I'll check them out if I can. If not them, then another CHL team.

Don't forget the Killer Bees and the Mudbugs, while you're looking for teams with bizarre names to watch, too ...

:silly:

The totally hot man on my avatar plays for the Mudbugs, FWIW.

Now that they are AHL or IHL or whatever...they are the Rampage.

29. I get those 2 leagues confused.
Never even heard of the CHL 'til I moved to Indy.

I'm a HUGE NCAA D-1 fan, so this useta-be, maybe-was glorified bar league stuff is kinda lame to watch, IMO.

16. There's still a hockey team called the Whalers?!
The things one learns at the mighty DU. Many Connecticut residents and expats will be pleased to learn this.

Not a lot of whaling in the Detroit suburbs, but the name remained unchanged.

4. Sort of
I don't get real into any sports but I like to watch a hockey game occasionally. And I was hoping to go to a Sharks game until this whole thing came about.

8. Let Them Fight Like Babies
I feel sorry for the workers at the arenas who are left without jobs. The concession people and parking lot employees, etc., who depend upon this supplemental income, by working nights during the season.

I feel glad for all the season ticket holders and general public, who are saving lots of $$$ on tickets, souvenirs, and food at the games.

I do not feel a thing for the bickering Babies, on both sides, who have effectively killed any chance for popularity this game might have had....and it had very little to begin with. Whenever they finally come to an agreement, one which they probably could have devised months ago....tickets will be extremely cheap and easy to come by.

We already dropped our season seats out here in California, and we're not alone. The impact on their bottom line is going to be felt LONG after they finally agree.

10. I agree. There are a lot of paychecks cut besides the players & owners
Not to mention surrounding businesses. Let's be honest, there's not a whole lot drawing people to downtown Detroit in the winter And I'd always grab a bite to eat somewhere down there beforehand.

11. OrangeCountyDemocrat: I agree with every word of your post.
Hockey will always have a huge following in Canada, but this is going to be huge hit for the American markets in the long term.

15. hockey ... ha!
Nobody here in St Paul Minnesota misses the NHL one single stinking bit. For a place that calls itself "Hockey Town USA" the news media, the fans, and the general public has completely forgotten about the league and the local team.

Former Democrat and now ReSUCKplican Norm Coleman stole our tax dollars to build up his Xcel Center hockey arena even though nobody wanted it (that is, except for the wealthy shitfaces who profit from it). We had the old Civic Center that generated more than enough money to operate profitably but the blood sucking RePUKEblican wanted a new stadium at taxpayer expense so that his wealthy puppetmasters would give him the senate seat that he now holds.

It's not that I want the NHL to fold but if it does it will be absolutely no loss. It would be smarter if the league dropped several teams and banned all fighting. Meantime, we have lots of NFL, NBA, college, and high school sports. That's good enough for me!

Boo-yah ! Now THAT'S some hockey !!

And if you get real ambitious, drive across the border to River Falls and catch a D3 game between UW River Falls and St. Norbert College ... those teams despise each other and leave everything they have out on the ice.

It's hockey at its best !!
