What do you like best about your home?
What do you like least? I'm talking about your residence but it could mean your town or area as well. Whatever strikes you.

For me, what I love best is the location which I wouldn't change for the world. I'm in a beautiful grove of Redwood trees, secluded and surrounded by woods. I get deer and raccoons and skunks that wander by, totally oblivious to me. I have a nice deck where I can enjoy the sun and the view. And it's ten minutes from the town where I work which is a decent sized suburban area.

What I like the least is that the water heater is tiny so in order to take a bath, I have to spend half the day heating water on the stove. It's also rather small so it's tough to keep uncluttered. But those are small issues to me.

1. I love that i'm only 100 miles away from San Francisco
I love the tile work we did in our bathrooms, alot of sweat but it is a very beautiful indian slate that i got for free.

least favorite aspect of my town it that it's flat, we call it the hole. We have many, too many spare the air days.

Los Gatos high school is one of the coolest looking buildings. We are moving in about 6 months to the Pacifica area. I forgot-north of SF.

4. Best? My solitude. Least? The location.
I can slam the door shut on the world, and no one will bother me within my own realm. It's just me and the animals. I'm not even reachable by phone.

But, I'm in the midst of an ugly, polluted, crowded big city, in a cold climate. Gotta get out....

6. We live in a historic district with big 4 and 5 bedroom homes
with a beautiful tree lined street. We spend alot of time and money on our home. It is a perpetual project and a true labor of love (second to our kids of course) but the perpetual project is what also what I like least about it. There is always something to fix! I love all of the trees but I hate them as well. We have a magnolia tree in our backyard that I "battle" 2 seasons of the year. It drops alot of blooms in the spring and then alot of leaves in the fall! So, the aspects that I love I also find irritating!

I love the historic district aspect because all of the homes on are street have so much character.

11. My dock
What I like most about my home is that I live on a canal off of the Great South Bay on Long Island and can walk out the back door, down the stairs, onto the dock and onto my boat. I can get into Manhattan in less than hour on public transportation.

What I like least is that much of Long Island disgusts me and that I must commute to Manhattan every day in order to earn enough money to live on the water.

I wish I could live by the sea someplace where people were progressive and life moved slower.

14. I'll stick to my house since I'm not liking the area I live in much lately
and would give my left arm to move to a blue state.

But anyway.

What I love best about my house? The floor plan is really nice, I love the way it is laid out (with one exception I'll mention in the liking least category) and I like that it is one story, that there are four bedrooms. I love the office, a comfy, comfy space that's perfect for working in.

I love the color scheme and furnishings, though I am forever critical and always think it could be improved.

I like the least the floor in the kitchen (horrible vinyl we have half peeled up and haven't finished doing the floor in there) and the fact that, if you are cooking in the kitchen, you can't talk to people in the living room (the only floor plan thing I don't like).

Oh and I don't like the backyard--it's too small and we've done NOTHING with it and it looks like crap. I don't even know where to start and have a black thumb anyway.

15. The solitude
No nasty people to disturb me. Nice big back yard for burying things.
No one around to hear the screams. Lots of yummy earthworms.
No intrusive nuclear material bylaws.
Oops, gotta go

18. What I like best
1. the space. we just moved from a 1050 sq ft ranch to a 2194 sq foot 2-story. we finally have enough room for the 3 of us and the dog to have our own space without tripping over each other

2. the space - continued. finally have almost enough room to have most of our music and book collection out of boxes, once we get the basement finished up (just the ceiling and carpet to go - whoo-hoo!)

3. the floorplan. the kitchen is in the center (the heart of the house!) and there's a great flow

4. the fireplace. i love fireplaces. nothing is cozier than a wood burning fireplace and a good book

5. we finally have a garage!

6. the master suite. holy crap - i am a grownup now! we have a walk-in closet and a master bathroom with a shower stall and a tub! and two sinks! hot diggity!

7. nice big back deck for entertaining

8. a west-facing front porch for watching the sun set

what i don't like as well

1. in order to afford a bigger house, we had to move further from downtown ann arbor. we're no longer in an area where i feel surrounded by like-minded people. i mean, tens of thousands of like-minded people are just 5 minutes away, but our immediate neighbors had bush-cheney signs up. gack.

2. we're in a subdivision now. can't walk to a store. i sold out my principles and took advantage of urban sprawl to get a nice house. i am seriously consumed by guilt. :(

3. no trees in the back yard (yet)

21. The Lake in my front yard
Small community of about 50 homes on a 100 acre lake. Electric motors or muscle power only. Surrounded by low mountains. Change of seasons means the view is always changing. Winters are mild but the summer heat can, some years, be oppressive. Friendly neighbors, mostly, who respect each others privacy but always willing to help out if you need it.

In a beautiful part of the country and close to a National Park and National Forest.

The downside is it's in East Tennessee and the religiosity can be a challenge.

23. My favorite thing about my houese
Is my piano room, I have my great-grandfathers baby grand smack dab in the middle and the whole room is painted to reflect the Italian countryside. I sit in there, on a chase lounge sipping hot tea and reading. I love my little escape in my own house.

What I dislike is my Glady's Crabitz neigbor who seems to forever be nosing in people's business, uncluding ours! Plus... she hates my dogs, and so in turn, I HATE her!

26. My condo
doesn't feel like a condo because the patio backs to a field where deer come down to munch (Actually there are power lines back there). There is a creek back there and I enjoy feeding the birds.

This is where I sit:

27. Several things:
1. We can afford it. We aren't strapped and unable to do anything because we are house poor.

2. The bedrooms are bigger because it is an older home.

3. We have a large backyard for the kids or building on if we need to.

4. By living here, our kids get to attend a wonderful elementary school.

I wish it was bigger, and not on such a busy street in the neighborhood.
