I LOVE Christmas - who's with me?
Things I like about it:

- the religious aspect (one of only two times a year I pay attention to religious aspects)

- the music

- the decorations

- the time with family

- still has a magical feel that makes me feel like a kid again

- the giving

- yes, the receiving too

I will not be like Scrooge. The commercialism goes overboard sometimes, but when you love the holiday, you can forgive.

2. I love it too
I like:

The holiday bustle and cold air

Decorating

Getting together with loved ones

Buying presents for my nieces and nephews

Every corny holiday show, particularly the various re-dos of "A Christmas Carol"

The music

The piney smell

The parties

Dressing up in sparkly clothes

22. The Sparkly Clothes!
There are so many things I like about Christmas, that I had totally forgotten about the sparkly clothes!

5. I know it isn't "cool", but I love the holidays, too.
My husband is a lapsed Hindu, so the holidays in our house start with Duvali and go right on up through New Year.

6. i love it, too. but sometimes it makes me sad.
i like playing with the kids and catching up with the young relatives who were tiny, it seems, such a short time ago and now are planning their lives....

also i take stock of the past year and the year coming...

one christmas several years ago my whole (big) family was together and we took my aged grandma to a late-night church service. at one point we all seemed to realize -- we talked about this later -- that this would be the last Christmas we would celebrate with grandma....and for about 20 minutes we all cried our eyes out. Nobody else in the congregation had a clue why we were so emotional at what was supposed to be a joyful service....and later, we had a laugh about THAT. they all thought we were nuts. so what, we are.

7. I love working 12- or 14-hour days
Being yelled at by people because I haven't wrapped their gifts fast enough. Eating nothing but chips and candy because you don't have time to actually take a lunch break. Going to work in the dark, coming home in the dark. It's all good.

27. Lord, lord, I feel your pain.
I did retail for way too long in a chi-chi department store.

You deserve better than this, but it's the best I can do for now: :toast:

8. I like the lights
but I always work on Christmas - take the place of someone with kids. I also wish that "goodwill" feeling people get around Christmas would last all year.

10. Same here
Christ wouldn't like goodwill only once a year. I can see people doing extra at Christmas, but there's a big difference.

I forgot to add that I like there to be cold air and snow at Christmas.

9. Its bittersweet for me
I don't look forward to it as much as I used to. It's nice that it brings my family together, but it also makes me think of people very dear to me that have passed on.

I don't feel like a kid again at Christmas, but it is nice to see the reactions of the kids in my family to presents and all of the to do about the holiday.

17. Man, you took the words right out of my mouth
We have endured a lot of loss over the last few years, too much to mention actually, and seeing those empty chairs at dinner is tough. But seeing the babies and their glee reminds me that life does go on and it can be good.

11. I like it sometimes...
Edited on Mon Nov-15-04 06:42 PM by Goathead
I like it back in Virginia, going for a nice long hike on a brisk Christmas day when it's gray, overcast, dry and crisp, but not rainy. I like seeing my nephew open presents and I generally like the whole "feel" of Christmas. But by the end of the day I am usually depressed, because of the whole two month long build up to Christmas thing and the blatant consumerism.

I get to drink some beer and watch bowl-games.
Besides Winter would suck even more without the hollidays.

15. I love it.
It's not so much a religious thing for me (although the music and everything is wonderful), but it's a great time of year. Great movies on TV, snow days, vacation, relaxation, seeing out insane relatives, giving and getting gifts for no particular reason...:)

18. I love it because of the food and mood!
Mick Foley, a former WWE Wrestler (and a fellow Democrat), has a room in his house devoted to Christmas which he keeps up year 'round because of his love for the holiday.
