If you liked Jethro Tull, you'll love...?
Planxty?

Boiled in Lead?

Any other bands out there that even come close to the jazz-rock-medieval folk fusion that is Tull?

4. Yeah they are good too
In fact Ian Anderson of Tull has jammed with them a few times and I think they share some common members.

6. ah Boiled in Lead

I forgot about them. My husband really likes a band called Blowzabella, an interesting fusion of gypsy, Celtic, etc. I also really like The Afrocelts ( formerly Afro Celt Sound System). Any folky/worldbeat fusion of that type is ok by me. Also Richard Thompson's previous incarnations come to mind. (Fairport Convention) oops just saw the above.

but then again, Jethro Tull was named best "metal" band one year at the Grammy's. :silly:

16. hard rock/metal
Sorry but had to correct my daughter about that too when she picked it up on VH1.

The category was hard rock/metal. I would certainly agree that Tull is not a metal band. But they were quite capable of hard rock and Martin Barre can play rings around 95% of the metal gods with their boring ass scales.

7. yes, Fenris
but you were fortunate enough in high school to have infinitely more options than Southern rock, Zeppelin and progressive rock. Who knows how many pot-addled arena shows I would have missed ( plus that America concert before I discovered punk) had I been born somewhat later.

Actually I always thought Boiled in Lead was a great band name.

8. Ah me... I could have been to so many more concerts. Wish I'd
done it. But all I can really lay claim to is a couple of Christian New Sounds, Stryper, and Bon Jovi.

Obviously Tull was better than all of them combined together. ;)

10. Tull was the first arena show I saw
with my stoner/brain boyfriend. Actually at the time it was kind of cool to see him ( Tull that is) wearing motley, leaping about and playing the flute on this tiny stage in a giant arena. I had only been to classical concerts prior to that. All my friends were obsessed with Yes, Genesis, and the like. Progressive rock spawned the punk reaction, so I guess something good came of it.

12. I like the progressive stuff better than punk, but that's just me. I
think it must be for the same reason I like realists and impressionists over cubists and modern type artists. *scratching head* I had a point there, but my four year old came over and started talking to me. I have no idea where this was going, sorry. *lol*

9. Tull, my all time favorite!
I can't think of anyone that really compares... But I do like some of the punk/irish stuff like the Pogues and Flogging Molly. Not exactly the same vein, but indirectly related.
