What will become of the lounge?

I know I must be way off base here, but something occurred to me last night. I responded with approval to a thread about forming a Star Trek "group" in the new DU groups forum. A while later I saw another thread about starting a group, can't remember the subject - a heavy metal group, I think, but that's when it hit me.

What happens to the lounge when there are groups for everything from Star Trek to Music to Poetry to Cats? I don't post here that often, but I like lurking in the lounge - the eclectic mix of topics and opinions keep it lively and ever changing. But what will it be like when the Star Trek threads have vanished? When the computer threads are elsewhere? When the gambling threads have moved?

What will the lounge be when the groups thing, which appears to be exploding to me, reaches maturity? What will become of the lounge?

Like I said, I know I must be way off base on this. Right?

I will not abandon the lounge and I will keep posting as many threads as possible to keep the place going. You all will still be welcome in my forum. Even thought I do like to talk to myself, and do carry on some lively conversations, it does get boring every once in a while and I like another person to hear my thoughts. ;)

3. i kind of see it turning into a clubhouse

longtime lounge lizards will still hang out, while not as many people will get addicted to it. i can see it slowing down, but it will live on

6. The lounge will never die

It's been around for over three years. It's seen many changes at DU, and it is as popular as ever. Don't worry, it will be okay :)

No cross-pollination, only smaller splinter groups :( But what do I know.

8. The Lounge will live on and be better than

ever. I think the groups idea is a good one but I don't see people hanging out there as they do the Lounge. People will post in those groups that interest them but will always return to the Lounge.

I don't see DU balkanizing. The groups are creating community for some. To me the groups are like the state forums. I occasionally visited the Missouri forum but I didn't live there as I do the Lounge. When I want to chill DU style...it's the Lounge I head for!
