2. They make me ashamed to be a country fan
Artists like Brooks N Dunn and Toby keith make me ashamed to be a country fan. Still artists such as Garth Brooks, The Dixie Chicks and Wille Nelson make me proud to be a country fan.

"When we free to love anyone we choose, then we shall be free" Garth Brooks.

6. I don't think the Nashville-pop acts like B&D and Toby Keith are really
"country music" artists; they are far from the elements and roots of rural music. Anytime a band has to have drums and overdriven guitar amps to do their show, they are a pop act.

10. I was in country radio when Toby Keith broke...
...and he was entirely record company/promotion driven.

Mercury Records tossed out three new artists at the same time (this was early in 1993): Toby Keith, Shania Twain, and a forgettable "artist" named John something-or-other. Their singles were released one right after the other, and the three of them toured together (it was called Mercury's Triple Play or some other such nonsense). The idea was to throw 'em at the wall and see if anything stuck. John Something Or Other went nowhere. Shania's album was a flop (this was before her hook-up with Mutt Lange). Only Toby Keith stuck, so the record company stopped building up and promoting the other two artists. If Shania Twain hadn't gotten together with Mutt, she'd probably be nothing mroe than a footnote on country music history.

Anyway...this is my longwinded way of agreeing with you. Toby Keith is nothing more than a product of the pre-packaged, cookie cutter, "hat act" record promotions of the 90s, the heyday of the so-called "hot country." Boxed up soundalikes, all of 'em.

I quit country radio at about the time it became obvious that country radio wasn't interested in anything innovative, roots country, or genuinely original.

12. Garth is known for
What Garth is known for, is his lyrics that have a more left wing feel to them, his song we shall be free, talked of Gay rights, relgious freedom (for all relgions) and enviromental issues, other songs he has done as touched on spousal abuse, and a womans right to use force to stop it from happening.

He bought a more leftwing crowd into country music.

13. I didn't know all that
I did know he had a controversial song about a beaten women. Sounds more like John Denver than Kid Rock.

3. May I be mean?
I would love to hear they are closet-cases, since they are now so famously
identified with Bushco.

4. As far as I am aware, both are married
to women and have been for some time.

Admittedly, I couldn't care less whether they are gay or straight.

I saw them in concert during my tenure as music director/DJ for a country radio station in the mid-90s, and from my closeup vantage point, it appeared that Kix Brooks was not actually playing the guitar. He was faking it, I'm sure of it.

All of their songs sound alike anyway. They are highly overrated.

15. "Married" Doesn't Mean Much
In country music in general, and Nashville, specifically, where sexuality is concerned.

If neither of them is married to their manager, however ...

9. Haven't heard any rumors about them
Still, along with Darryl Worley, Sara Evans, Joe Nichols, Toby Keith, Travis Tritt, Reba McEntire, and Loretta Lynn, they are very vocal Bush supporters. Right now, I'm so mad that I can't listen to their CDs. Their honky tonk, blues, and rock mix is usually good, but I can do without them.
