there are a lot of younger people, which is great. And you?

Edited on Sat Nov-13-04 11:41 PM by CO Liberal
I'll be 52 on the 28th. Here's a picture of me that The Princess took back in August.

BTW, my avatar is a picture of me that was taken at the Halloween dance where the Princess and I met - in October of 1991.

Please relish being the baby. I remember way back when, when I was
'the baby' at age 24. Very cool to be young and learning in Boston, meet/have role models; you are so lucky to be meeting us this way. We never had this opportunity (chatting on DU!). Think about it; I had no clue what an internet was when I was 20. Talk about progress.

60. I'm 48. This should be a formal "group".
After all, think of all the things we've seen...we're not "boomers", we're "tail-end" boomers, children of the 70's...

The late-Vietnam era, ending circa 1971/72, morphed into Led Zepplin/Bowie, which in turn morphed into punk/Sex Pistols/Ramones...and RONALD REAGAN, defending America from those evildoers in...Grenada. This happened right before our very fucking eyes!

In the meantime, US foreign policy, across-the-board, with every single example, throughout the 60's, 70's and 80's, MY LIFETIME THUS FAR, has been a fucking joke.

Our timeline deserves it's own thread.

63. Too damn old or not old enough?
38 years old, but I have seen "kids" here at 15 which make me ashamed of myself for not becoming more active and thoughtful with my convictions. I was the most radical right wing nut ball in my teens and early twenties, I shutter at some of the things I said. I once said that "I am more conservative than Rush Limbaugh." That hurts more than a spicy bean burrito and a bottle of kimchee.

I hope you can forgive me, I was a US Marine at the time, damn bloody brain washing, hell of a thing.

Anyway, education UC Berkeley of all places, and experience, living in NYC for post-graduate work, made me see the light.

I guess, my point, age is not significant, we all reach the truth at different times in our lives. I personally, wish I had seen the light a few decades ago.

Peace.

76. Turning 54 this Wednesday
Holy Jebus. How the hell did I get this old?

54 and still marching against the knuckledraggers. I feel like I've spent my whole life making up protest signs. I got a closet full of them for different issues/occasions.

78. Well, I am 36 and you could not pay me enough to be
20 again. I've always fought the good fight but now I do it better. I love my age!

Having said that, last week I looked in the mirror and saw my Mother. Oddly all I felt was pride, she was one heck of an activist in her day. :)

Edited on Sun Nov-14-04 01:00 PM by Mabus
same for me when I buy cigarettes or alcohol or go to night clubs. I was got held out of line last year at a local concert while they checked over my ID to make sure it hadn't been altered.

My partner's the same way. He's 49 and until his moustache started to grey up a few years ago he got carded too.

This probably wouldn't happen if he actually took me anywhere (besides poltically oriented get togethers).

93. 47 this past October 12th.
A true child of the 60's and a teen of the 70's. I turned 13 October of 1970.

One day, when I was a little girl, my mom took me and my brother over to my grandparents. My mother was very sad. She explained that another little girl and boy about mine and my brother's age had just lost their daddy and everybody was very sad. That was the day JFK was assassinated.

A man walked on the moon. We watched it on TV.
The Beatles came to the US. We watched them on the Ed Sullivan Show. My parents wouldn't let me go see them when they came to Vegas. They said I was too young.

In junior high, one of my coolest teachers was fired for being a "communist." I ran into one of his daughters many years later and she let me know what really happened. Her father was extremely liberal and the school district didn't want his "subversive" ideas in the school. My school went through a period of "race riots." The Civil Rights movement was in the news everyday.

Kids in high school wore POW and MIA bracelets. Platforms made their "debut." Long hair was in. A woman from the National Organization for Women (NOW) came to my school and gave a presentation on the ERA. Vietnam was in the news everyday.

Walter Cronkite, David Brinkley, and Chet Huntley were the news reporters I remember growing up listening to.

I remember exactly where I was standing the moment we heard on the radio at work, that the Challenger had exploded.

"The more things change, the more they stay the same."

And no gloating here, I know I am above-average intelligence for my age, but that's about it- "for my age".

Sometimes I think a person's 20s are there solely to show them how much they have left to learn. All of my friends are 29-35, and I feel like the baby of the group. But I don't mind, as it has taught me that age is not always "just a number", especially during the times I am thrust into situations where I must converse and associate with people younger than myself.
