Is anyone going to be around on Thanksgiving?
My daughter and son will not be with me on Thanksgiving, they both are in the medical field and will be working a 10 hours shift at their hospital. They are my only family. Is anyone going to be on DU Thanksgiving? I've done the friends route before on holidays but this is not the same. I'm more comfortable communicating on DU then in a room full of strangers and their families.

2. Surely there will be lots of folks here that day.
I might pop in now and then -- since I plan to order at least most of our meal pre-cooked from Safeway, I won't be cooking. (Yay, happy feet!) My sister and her kids were going to come out from CA, but they couldn't get the cash for airline tickets together.

I'm sorry your kids won't be able to be with you that day. Will the three of you be able to share a special meal some other time that weekend?

7. I don't know
I'll probably spend at least part of the weekend with my sister. We are usually alone together on Thanksgiving. I've tried to convince her to got to the beach this year.

Sorry your family will not be together that day. Yes, I would try to have a special time with them later in the weekend if at all possible.

8. No Thanksgiving This Year
Thanksgiving is a federal government sanctioned holiday ... the 'President' always issues a proclaimation.

So this year, we're cancelling our regular Thanksgiving events. There's not much to be thankful for when it comes to our government and the past year's happening in this country and what this country has done in the world.

Thankful that we killed over 100,000 innocent Iraqis?
Thankful that almost 1200 US troops have been killed over the past two years on Bush's orders?
Thankful that there are more uninsured children in our country?
Thankful that Bush has cheated his way to another four years in office?
And on and on and on.

There is no denying reality ... this is not a year to be following the government's call to celebrate 'thanksgiving'.

We'll have a long weekend and eat well ... but call it 'thanksgiving'? Invite over the radical Republican relatives to feast and act like everything is fine? NO!

9. I probably will be.
I'm an unmarried only child whose parents have both died, and I'm not currently in a relationship. Usually on Thanksgiving, I'm doing a fill-in at my college radio station, but there's an Internet connection in the air studio.

So there's a very good chance you'll see me at DU on Thanksgiving! :hi:

14. yep. Got a friend coming over to avoid HER family, but I'll be in and out.
Closest family for either of us is 1000 miles away and we like it that way. Most of our friends asked us, but I'm tired of the turkey-football-politics and boredom of Thanksgiving.

We're doing anti-Thanksgiving. Junk food (I'm thinking a big thing of nacho fixins and pizza?) stupid movies that have nothing to do with being thankful and a lot of ingratitude.
Wanna come?

No plans for Thanksgiving, and I'll be at home all day if my ex doesn't pick that day to show up and move her stuff out. :(
