Does Sheryl Crow have any talent whatsoever?
Our music vendor seems to love playing Sheryl Crow's hits "All I Wanna Do Is Have Some Fun" and "Soak Up The Sun."

I am not sure what ANYONE saw in those songs. It's all this weird stream-of-consciousness crap, and "Soak Up The Sun" sounds like the musical version of the "Stuff Torkel Chicken" ad Burt Reynolds did in "Stroker Ace."

Can anyone explain how this woman keeps a job in the music business?

3. because she has a conscience
I don't know. Perhaps she's one of the MANY who were fortunate enough to be in the right place at the right time. You don't have to be dripping with talent to make it in the entertainment business. Having said that, I think she's talented, though not necessarily my style.

She took a LOT of shit when the Iraq war started. Freepers pretty much invaded her message boards with their fucking venom. She's still around and they're still fucking losers, so I think she wins. ;)

4. it's a mystery

she's always annoyed me and somehow her music gets hyped by the media, which is not to say she's untalented. It's weird. Somewhere down the line the media decided she should be popular, I guess, without asking people what they thought. Still, I'm sure there are people who like her music. Would be good to hear from them. And, well, tastes differ.

On edit: *she* has not annoyed me - her music has :)

5. Can't judge her by her most annoyingly overplayed tunes...
She's a decent guitar player and songwriter.

7. Pretty good studio gigs before Fame!! struck
Good studio people are hard to find.

Yes, she has talent - a lot more than say, Repuke Britney.

8. I think she is "talented" for what she is trying to do.
Fit in as a "middle of the road" type artist and be as accessible to as many people as possible. Think of her as a solo Fleetwood Mac.

9. Word has it that...
Edited on Sat Nov-13-04 07:20 PM by nine23
...when her record sales/concert grosses are dwindling, she'll pose on the cover of a "lad" magazine. This fourty-ish "lad" doesn't mind. I guess...

I certainly don't lose any sleep over it, and I'm not really a fan, especially while PJ Harvey is still walking the earth.

edit: posted too slow; see above.

10. Can Someone Be Overrated AND Underrated, Simultaneously?
Most of her work does not impress me, but her second album had some ear openers.

And ya gotta give her credit for ability on the accordian.

13. Those are the overplayed radio tunes
Her albums actually have a lot deeper material on it. The songs "The Difficult Kind" and "Safe and Sound" stick out in my head. She sang opera with Pavarotti, and she is classically trained on the piano.

Radio stations are just like the TV, they overplay the stuff that they believe the dumb American public can listen to over and over, and the rest of the deeper stuff that people actually have to have a brain to understand, they ignore.

My favorite artist is Peter Gabriel, and much of his stuff is very deep, but there have only been a couple of tunes they gave decent radio play to.

14. Sheryl ROCKS!
I think she has a great voice and I like most of the songs that she has made. I've bought every album she made.

I like her song and plus I think she seems like a very cool chick.

15. Don't judge her by the stupid singles
There's some good songs on the albums. She's got all the right influences. John Lennon, Keith Richards, Cream, REM. Her best one is The Globe Sessions.

16. She is quite a talented musician, but she doesn't write "hits".
That's why everyone knows the hyped out stuff, which IMO, isn't as good/satisfying as her other music.

I don't think she's a genius, but she certainly has a degree of talent.

17. Funny you should mention Sheryl Crow
Hubby is watching a PBS concert with Sheryl. I don't think she has much talent, and her band sucks. She's doing a really lame version of SRV's Pride and Joy. Blech.
