Their popularity has made the price for second-hand vhs tapes plummet! There are a few second hand music stores here that also sell dvds and they sell videos for 3 and 2 dollars!
(I've collected videos for over twelve years now, mostly foreign films, b-movie horror and science fiction, film noir, the classics, just stuff I like (I have eclectic tastes)...I have over 1000 and no way will I be able to convert them all to dvd versions!
Last week I picked up a letterbox version of John Carpenter's The Thing, and, inspired by a thread I read here yesterday, I watched it last night (I hadn't seen it for like 15 years, and never on widescreen)...I think it will become known as a classic, if it hasn't already...I was filled with dread just waiting for the dog cage scene! Plus I saw things I never saw before (only saw it on tv prior to this)
I also at the same time picked up a video of Chris Elliot's early 90s show "Get A Life" for 2$...I had never heard of this show before! I was one of those who liked him on Letterman and I liked "Cabin Boy" too...Umm, I'm still out on this, it was interesting (this tape had 2 shows, the "Spewie the Alien" one and one guest starring Emma Samms)... the canned laughter irritated me...definitely a curiosity...
Tonight I will watch another one I bought for 2$, a Canadian film called "Twilight of the Ice Nymphs"...I know nothing about this except it looked interesting, the box looked very colorful and described it as "Gotterdammerung meets Pee Wee's Playhouse" (?)...It has Shelly Duvall, who I always liked, Frank Gorshwin (The Riddler!) and the lady who played the Borg Queen in it and it looks like a fantasy...
Anyways, just thought I'd share a few thoughts...
