I splurged today
and bought a sirloin tip roast beef.... am making mash potatoes, veggie and salad. Hopefully I can either freeze some of the food or have several days of enjoyable food. What I try to do is freeze a meal for my daughter who is working on less of a shoestring budget then me. Actually I live by myself so I fix myself meals and freeze some for my daughter. I do not trust eating out. I saw the 60 minutes on restaurant foods several months ago, turned me off from eating out. My son who worked in restuarants in his teens and early twenties said "if you knew what happens in restuarants you would not want to eat out ever." Kinda take his word on this. Anyway, am looking to a roast beef dinner tonight with left overs. Yes, mash potatoes too!

3. sounds good to me
i love cooking with my girl.

Just a hint, if you refrigerate or freeze the food immediately after its cooked, and is still warm, it tastes better than if you let it cool. but you probably already knew that.

:toast:

my girl is one of those of those chix that likes to try to take over a kitchen. sometimes i have to get snippy with her to back out of my space and she pouts. it's very very cute. she's a better cook than me overall but i have some specialties that she likes.

clark on tweety now.

4. thanks for telling me
Thought the food had to be completely before freezing. gosh, I put it in containers until the next day then freeze. Now I know I can freeze when warm, that helps. Thanks!

I do love to cook, I am an excellent cook, gourmet, am able to cook whatever you want, but live by myself now. So, I fix something for myself and send the rest to my daughter. Most adult children who are 24 live by themselves and are self supporting enjoy their brown bags when parents see them.

When my daughter visits, I empty my freezer and pantry. She is a great daughter. I lived by myself at one time, so I know what she goes through.

9. YES
My daughter asks for nothing, but I am my mother's daughter. She always sent me home with lots of stuff, never asked, but she always gave. I do the same.

5. I admire a person who...
uses the word "splurge".
Haven't heard that in a long time.
Thanks.

7. Believe me, it is splurge
not hamburger tonight. But, I actually believe the best thing to make with ground beef is tacos... chilies, hot peppers, onions, my fried tortillas, nothing is better, top it with lettuce and tomatoes -- there is a nutrious meal, and serve with homemade refried beans and an excellent hot sauce. That is life.

8. you got it
mexican food. awesome for you and cheap if you make it yourself. the yucatecan diet, in particular, is cheap, healthy and TASTY. check out some yucatecan recipes, its a great deviationfrom what you would consider the classic "central" mexican diet.
