1. Nothing appeals more to the low-brow hick contingent
Than a black cowboy and a little person destroying their dignity!

2. I saw a Shania Twain clip this morning
Seemed more like MTV than County, by about a million miles. WTF is wrong with country? Yes, country music features lyrics about divorces, their pet dogs, and divorcing so they can marry their pet dog, but that's far more preferable than trying to turn the industry into Britney-spears wannabes!

5. Shania is Canadian
That's one thing she's got going for her. She's way classier than Britney too...and more talented.

7. Today's country isn't to my liking... I prefer Hank Williams Sr
Patsy Cline and Johnny Cash...

I also like old time hillbilly music but it is hard to find new bands that play it...

9. Patsified!
I don't care for country, either, but Patsy moved me enough to create patsified.com... what a dame! Forty years gone and she still patsifies people every single day.

Love Johnny C., too.

18. Old-time music is alive and well!
My favorite new old-timer is Bruce Molsky. I listen mostly to the old, OLD stuff - Edden Hammons, Ernie Carpenter, Tommy Jarrell, field recordings from the Library of Congress (which can be pretty unlistenable stuff if you're not in love with it). My most recent acquisition is a compilation CD of Black string band music from the 1920s. Amazing stuff!

It's true you won't find a lot of new recordings because...well, this music doesn't sell as much, so recording contracts are harder to get. But there's probably an old-time jam or two or a contra dance somewhere near you, and you can hear the music there and maybe pick up an independently produced CD, too.

And Johnny Cash, of course, is only slightly less than god. And don't forget Connie Smith.

They starch 'em when they wanna get all dressed up! Wouldn't be proper to show up at one of these big wingdings in jeans that aren't starched!

22. Yo, matcom! That group is Big & Rich. They are the Future.
Heads are exploding in "Country" radio stations all over the nation, with cries of, "Hell, that ain't country!" Yet the CD has been as high as #3 on the Country charts. Chevrolet is sponsoring a Big & Rich/Gretchen Wilson tour.

Meanwhile, all the girls in all the clubs are dancing their pretty asses off to "Save A Horse, Ride A Cowboy." This thing ain't up to the males; the females have decided that Big & Rich are the (sur)real thang.

Big & Rich are demonstrating what a few of us have been watching on the dance floors for about five years now: that you can take the hardest Gangsta groove and throw a hoedown on top of it--without missing a beat! It's Hick Hop!

"Charley Pride was the man in black, Rock and Roll used to be about Johnny Cash."

28. The funny part is, I think they stole the term.
My band was gigging at MidTown Billards in Little Rock about three years ago and I mouthed off about our version of "Gin And Juice" (which we copped right from The Gourds, down to the banjo and mandolin) being Hick Hop--"or RapNeck if you prefer."

I seem to remember this big black man at the bar. Looked just like a cowboy...

filming their video "Save a horse, ride a cowboy".

The city and their production company are fighting.
