File Sharing programs
I was stuck with Kazaa Lite for a while and just used that. (obviously regular Kazaa is more of a disease than a program)

I thought that was best and used it for what I needed...

The I discovered both Soulseek and eMule!!

Man, Kazaa bites ass compared to those programs. I use Soulseek for my music, and eMule for software and games.

eMule takes a while to get going, but it steadily builds up and before you know it you've got 3 full CDs of a software package, and the stuff off of eMule always seems to work properly, whereas Kazaa is full of crap.

Also, the music selection, and ratio of fake songs to real songs on Soulseek is WAY better than Kazaa...

Kazaa has been reduced to mostly porn disguised as stuff I don't want anyways.

I have seen the light!

2. Make sure you use peer guardian to block the RIAA no matter what

file sharing program you use.

10. Yes (not sure about 95 and older), and it blocks more than just the RIAA

File sharing without Peer Guardian is like having unprotected sex with hookers.

20. Here's how I use it

I turn it on anytime right before I use any file sharing program. Make sure to update the blocked list, and turn priority to high.

After it's done updating, then turn on your file sharing program. When you're done sharing and have turned off your file sharing program, then you can turn it off.

That's it.

27. Thanks, Please disregard the pm I sent.
I managed to get things worked out.
I'm running this as a quasi-firewall. Amazing at what it blocks. Who are these things trying to contact my computer? I had no idea. I'm going to se if I can find out. I'm not the sharpest knife in the computer drawer, but maybe I can ping them and learn something.

Thanks again.

I really don't use anything else.

I've heard good things about Soulseek. Maybe I'll give it a whirl.

11. I use emule
It offers a greater variety of rare files than any p2p I've ever seen, but you cannot use it unless you are someone like me who can leave the computer on virtually all day and night, because of how it puts files together in 1/82 fragments. It takes a very, very long time. For most music files, you're better off using WinMX.

... but I can (and do) do that..

So you get a file going on eMule even if it's about 800 meg.. and you start off downloading at like 2.7k or something.. but let it go overnight, as the sources build up, wake up the next morning and you're rockin' like 80k, and uploading too.

:headbang:

Heyo

on edit: eMule tip.. once you enough of a file that it shows up in your shares... set the priority to "Release".. tht way you'll start giving parts of the file to people that they don't have yet, which gives you high priority to download from the the parts that THEY have but you don't have yet.

sometimes the reason for that is that everybody else is missing those few percent, too. Do you pay attention to the color coded progress bars? Sometimes you can see where most other people are missing the same little piece. There are guides online for what all the colors mean. You'll get the parts though, somewhere SOMEBODY has that entire God dang file. LOL

That can be really annoying when that happens...

25. Oh dammit. You mean the little red sliver.
Well there's got to be somebody who has that last little bit. It's not like everybody would upload exactly 95.7% of So Death Would Be Just a Bad Dream and then just STOP. Or all but the first half of a Space Ghost C2C episode.

I have 105 downloads waiting, does that impact anything? As far as I know, I haven't been banned yet from any servers. By the way, how does the server that you're using affect your downloads?

26. I think it happens....
....when somebody manages to get most of the file somehow.. but then somehow fails to get all of it. The version they have is the one that gets spread around on eMule. I found that the majority of the time, with a lot of patience, you'll get it... the original person had to be getting it from somebody who had all of it, and most likely it WAS on eMule.

:)

soulsucker for music, ed2k/overnet for pr0n, er, I mean "movies and software."

on edit - in linux, "nicotine" is the best way to access the soulseek network, and I prefer aMule for the ed2k/overnet network. Seriously - where else are you gonna be able to download Spongebob Squarepants in German?
