What on earth is wrong with my web browser?
Okay, enough of the serious stuff for the moment, and on to the "nuisances." Maybe someone can help. I'm suddenly finding that when I right-click on an image in my web browser, it will only let me save it as a bmp, regardless of what kind of file it really is. Likewise I find I can no longer "view source," whether by right-clicking, or from the View menu. WTF? Some setting I need to change? Corrupted program? I'm using I.E. 6.0.-something. (Please don't tell me to ditch I.E. - I like I.E. I just want it to work as it should...)

5. Ditto
I got so sick of all the crap that came with IE that I switched to Firefox. It's free and easy. Many viruses, trojan horses, and worms are made to work with IE. I get almost nothing with FF. While you're at it, get their Thunderbird mail account...it filters your current email into TB. Won't even let spam anywhere near the account--it all gets sent to your webmail account bulk folder. Nice, eh?

3. I had the same problem
On XP. Is that what you are on? I tried tech support because the computer was brand new. I tried restoring to factory settings. Nothing worked. Finally, I tried Firefox for reasons unrelated to the problems. Everything worked on Firefox. I would encourage anyone to give it a try.

4. Yeah, XP.
But I don't know a thing about Firefox. I'm lucky to work with the stuff that's familiar to me. Switching browsers would be a last last LAST resort.

9. Just go to www.mozilla.org
And just click download. Couldn't be simpler. They're promoting it right now on the main page. Just make it your default browser when you open it for the first time (a dialog box should appear) and you're all set.

I was with you. I didn't really have a huge problem with IE, I liked IE, but it messes up a lot.

Firefox is set up almost exactly like IE, so there really isn't any growing pains or steep learning curves. Once you get used to the idea of no IE (takes about a day or two) it's highly customizable. All of my web sites are now set to my specific font and background.

It's also a very small install program, something like 3-4 MB, so it souldn't take much time to download.

I have nothing against Microsoft polically, they donated more to Dems than Republicans this year, so it isn't an activist thing on those grounds.

When you feel better about FireFox, download Thunderbird from mozilla.org to replace your Outlook. It's very simple to transfer your old mailbox, as long as you make sure you don't have any 'custom' folders. Put the E-mails you have in those folders back into your new mail and sent mail folders, before you convert, and there's absolutely no problem.

Good luck!

7. Clear Cache and read this MS KB Article
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;810978 Copy the whole link. I can't get it to paste right

Usually this problem means your cache has an unknown or damaged file.

10. Thanks!!!
This is what I was looking for. I'll give it a try. For those that recommended Firefox, I'll definitely keep it in mind in case this doesn't work.

Thanks all....

12. I used AOHell and IE for ages
Edited on Fri Nov-05-04 10:34 PM by mlle_chatte
I was told about FF and ignored it. I finally downloaded it and ignored it. The format was very different from AOhell, and that's what I was mostly used to. Now I hardly turn on AOHell. and Never use IE...I've had to refomat too many times behind IE. :eyes:

That said, try this site: http://www.annoyances.org/
It's a forum for Windows users, and you might find a person with the same problem and a fix for it...
