I had dreamed of being able to hit 1000 in a new era of Democratic principles and progress, to be able to sing at the top of my lungs the words President John Forbes Kerry in celebration of all we have achieved in this country.
Instead, this country took a step back on the path toward the dark ages. I am still angry, worried, sick at the thought of where we might be headed. I am now here for the long run, this fight is now mine too. I am a Jew, a Green Card holder, the worries and ability make it easy to leave, to go back to where I know it is safe and freedom is assured. But this is my home now of my choosing. My ancestors were very good at running. It is in my blood. My ancestors ran from eastern Europe to save their lives from the pogroms. But the running stops right here. This is my home and I stake my claim to my right to live here. I will take my citizenship, I will defend my right to speak and live freely. I will defend our right to a democracy. I will stand shoulder to shoulder with anyone threatened with a denial of their civil rights. As a Jew I understand the implications of having ones rights eroded while people stood by and watched, and I will not let that happen in my lifetime.
I am so thankful I have found the DU, a place to share thoughts, ideas and to keep informed in our time of media manipulation. I believe strongly in the power of the internet to prevent the overwhelming control of a media pushing an agenda. I believe it will help to keep us safe and I'm glad to be a part of it.
Wow, this ended up being some post. Especially since my intial idea was to say: 1000th post, two words - FUCK BUSH.
Apparently I've moved beyond the incoherent stage finally.
