Jon Stewart: "Bush gets a second term, thanks to Ohio, a state that is...
...high in the middle, round on both ends, and...THANKS."

The teaser that's been running all night for tonight's show.

3. To be a little more accurate, fuck 51% of Ohio.
The other 49% gave it their best shot and should be commended.

10. Thanks. I live in Cuyahoga County. We tried.
The problem is that everything south of Akron is really just northern West Virginia...

22. Fuck the people in Ohio who voted for that prick.
200,000 jobs lost in that state...and they've voted for more of the same.

Fuck them. Fuck them. Fuck them. They deserve what they're about to get.

28. Stories yesterday of IT firms in India celebrating Bush's re-selection
SO...the premise that "people get the president they deserve" will soon come into play.

There have been three interrelated kinds of news stories before, during and after the election:

1). In the "six month stretch" leading up to the election, less talk of outsourcing to India (as well as China & Mexico) because it is not a good topic for election-year conversation. Bush's "base" loves it, because the outsourcing CEOs and members of upper management have gotten fat and rich over the "productivity" gains. The little people, however, hate it when it comes time to train the new employee from India who will be doing their job in a month. News that bigger, more sweeping exports were already down on paper but were being held until 2005.

2). Within mere days of the election, stories (that were posted in DU and should be pretty easy to find when all of the search functions are restored) about Indian programming / IT / call center firms "worried" about the outcome of the election: Kerry anti-outsourcing, Bush pro.

3). Stories posted YESTERDAY on DU (once again, search 'em when you can) of the same Indian firms "celebrating the re-election of president Bush."

terrya, The people who voted for Bush are NOT going to get fucked in the normal fashion. They're going to get it "Caligula-style." There's no way that this man would have come CLOSE to re-election if HALF of the "51%" crowd actually understood what he plans to accomplish in the next four years.

So, the question of "what happens to DU after the election" has now been answered. I predict registrations for this site hitting six figures by mid-2005.

29. And this is the sad part of the story...
...Ohio is going to take a hit on this, they are going to be seen as the state "responsible" for putting Junior "over the top," whether that was the true story or not.

And folks like you, realisticphish. will have to step up and make people aware of your efforts.

BUT...once you do that...you will have respect and admiration of people like me. I salute you and the folks in your county.

37. Fuck Ken Blackwell.
He's the reason Ohio didn't go Kerry. Several people have posted an article by Greg Palast about this -- you should read it, it's enlightening.

They suppressed the Democratic vote down to the margin of error. If people don't vote, their votes can't be counted.

We were screwed. Don't blame us.

No doubt in my mind the will of the people in Florida was for Kerry - the machines slanted it for Stupid.

23. I'm unfamiliar with voter suppression in Ohio.
I saw none in the Cincinnati area. Even if there was some, I don't think it could have made up the margin that we lost by. It is OK, though, we'll win next time. I'm not worried, because we'll win back Congress in '06.

34. Cincinnati didn't have voter suppression because
its brainwashed by 700 wlw and Conservative nuts. the Tri state is highly influenced by Indiana and Kentucky. witch are very republican, at work all day Tuesday people that live in Kentucky would brag about how they voted strait Republican tickets with the ease of just pressing one button on there electronic voting machine.

38. They didn't buy any Diebold machines.
For all the good it did -- they were Sequoia machines, and the ones in several Franklin County precincts didn't work from the moment the polls opened. O'Dell didn't hand Ohio to Bush* -- Ken Blackwell did.

20. Of course the media wont admit that fear won because
then they would have to admit their part in cultivating that fear along with the US government.

Expect more of the same because the media is painting this as a mandate and regardless of how many LTTEs we write it wont matter.

33. Fear and general bigotry
Gay marriage was just one of many crummy little appeals to bigotry and fear of others. Rove ran a smelly, nasty campaign, totally content-free, with just enough talking points so that when asked why they would do a stupid thing like vote for the Punk, they had a quasi-answer. "Cuz he's good on terra." "Cuz he sez what he means and means what he sez." Useless nasty morons, who evidently would voted to have a nuclear waste dump put in their back yards if Bush told them to.

24. LOL
I like living here, but I always tell people that yes, it does suck.I figure as long as I keep telling people that Cleveland sucks no one will come here and it keeps down the traffic.
Actually, we have a lot of pretty cool things around here and can do just about anything anyone else can do and in little as a 2 hour drive.
As for the election, I still say the numbers don't add up.
