There ARE some benefits to a stupid majority of the population
Whenever an incident like the re-election of * occurs it demonstrates once again that the majority of the populace is, in a nutshell, stupid. Oh, of course the GOP propagandists and revisionists are hastening to assure the world that Bush won because people "trusted him on terror" or "Kerry was a flip flopper" or some such nonsense. But the fact remains those who voted Bush were just too stupid to know better.

And a small part of me revels every time I encounter such a wave of idiocy, believe it or not, because it demonstrates to me how far a functioning mind will take you in this country (although at present it appears that obtaining the Presidency is out of the question for individuals of any such mental caliber). I was a heavy drinker for about ten years (having kids finally knocked that off; nothing worse than changing a diaper at 4 am with a hangover) and I still didn't manage to kill enough brain cells to become a Bush voter! So, I feel glad that I will never possess the lack of acuity to agreeably drink the Kool-Aid and be a good little Republinazi.

A stupid population has some benefits for the non-stupids. I work in IT, an area I firmly believe will always have opportunities because I know of individuals with masters degrees who don't seem to be bright enough to realize that after sending out the same e-mail once a week for weeks on end, yes, I really do mean it when I advise users "DO NOT OPEN ANY ATTACHMENTS FROM ANYONE YOU DON'T KNOW!"

Let's see, what else can be gained from so many stupids?

-Never a waiting line at the library, museum or the hiking trails.
-Impossible to get football tickets months in advance, but I bought tickets to see the Dalai Lama speak on the day of the event.
-Easier to beat traffic jams when you know you can make a left turn and cut down a few side streets while the mindless sheep obediently wait in line.
-It's possible to go away on vacation without fretting "Oh my God! I'm going to MISS the Apprentice!"
-Cost of cable TV with premium channels: at least $100 per month. Cost of classic novels downloaded (legally) from the web: free.
-Immunity from the relentless psychological manipulation of today's advertising trends.

The list goes on and on.

us all into the abyss.

4. Yeah, but it makes it hard to discuss who will be thrown off
the island when the idiots at the office start talking about the latest "Survivor" series. Or who is screwing who in the latest (put in the name, I don't know what it's called) stupid TV show.

6. GOOD point, MR
Good list! Here's more:

* Your vacation spots are relatively uncrowded because they're not sponsored by Disney.

* The classes you want to take in your community college are generally available because (a) they're WAY too challenging, or (b) they're WAY too weird.

* You really get it about Springsteen's music.

* The things you want to buy are generally available because they aren't advertised on TV or sold in Sprawl-Mart.

* NOBODY wants to drive a car like yours! And it doesn't take a tank-driver training course to park it!

* The movies you want to see NEVER have long lines. No one else understands them, anyway.

9. ROFL! I needed this laugh, friends, badly!
The extremely red state I live in (not a single Dem candidate won) is populated with lots of military and real idiots who "want the government off their backs".

Can't wait till all their social services dry up, they can't get a doctor's appointment with their free health clinic, can't get a tooth pulled at their free dental clinic, can't get protection in their homes from the police, can't drive the roads because there's no money for repairs or snowplows (this almost happened 2 years ago....), and the Repuke governor takes away their PFD's.

Gas is still $2.17/gallon here, and it's MADE here in Fairbanks...go figure...but Exxon still owes big money from the Valdez (the governor is a buddy of Exxon); the fisheries are dying out, the camping and hiking areas are filthy, there are virtually NO on-road bathroom stops (where we have roads)...............

So have at it, Repukes. I'm pretty self-sufficient, figure that I'll still be able to get my moose next fall, have a greenhouse and garden area, know CPR for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid.

In 4 years, we'll see who's doing better.

With all the benefits of living in a stupid society, and also I agree with your assessment that we DO live in a stupid society.
