So, how you all doing?
Me...well, I've turned off the radio, I'm sipping a Guinness and listening to Jerry Douglas. Things could be worse I guess.

I highly recommend turning off the radio and TV. I've found beer and bluegrass to be an excellent mental restorative. You might give it a try. Feel free to substitute the beverage and music of your choice.

 x( :(

5. I'm feeling better listening to Randys encouragment to fight
But after being glued to the radio/internet since I got home from work/school yesterday, I'm feeling stretched thin. Still have a few more hours here at work, then get to go home and study for an early morning geology exam. yipee

and retreat for a while. (What am I doing at DU then? Well, an addiction is a terrible thing to waste. :-) )

9. Coffee With a Friend
...I took today off from work today...too demoralized to bother. But I spent the afternoon with a good friend. We shared time together expressing our fears of the four years to come, but also our hopes of eventual rejuventation.

He pointed out a salient point - the electorate has not changed at all since 2000 - we are still two electorates and the dynamic will not change between now and 2008 - it's still likely to come down to Ohio, Florida, Iowa and New Mexico so long as we run another good candidate. The South is gone - 65/35% margins are not something we will be over to overcome soon - so let's focus on getting back some congressional seats there first. It was all about get out the vote because people pretty much voted the same way they did last time, but the GOP had a better ground game (and the % of the electorate is 2 points higher than in 2000 - the difference in this election)

Sorry for the tangent - now is a time to grieve. It's OK and it's not unhealthy. In fact it's important - we need to remember the pain of this day and bring it along with us. As bad as the next 4 years are certain to be, we will live to fight another day - it's just so painful to acknowledge defeat to such bastards! The GOP is not our parent's GOP - these are a much more stridently right-wing breed and they are going to move the center of gravity even further to the right - very close to facism. We need to grieve now so that we can be where we need to be to stand and fight. Our future depends upon it. But for now, a brief period of retreat is OK - even prescribed - we are only human!

13. Ahhhhh! No politics allowed in this thread!
Just kidding. :P

You're spot on about the change in the GOP. They drove my folks out of the party. My dad was a lifelong pub, but he's had enough. He told me "I never thought I would vote Democratic." Bush changed his mind.

11. Lousy. Just like '72, '80, '84, '88 & 2000.
Here we are again, and this is worse this time.

The only bright spot is that we re-elected out Dem governor here.

14. We kicked out the so called republican gov in my state!
The one highlight of last night. I say so called because he was far more libertarian than pub. So much so even the old school pubs hated him. First incumbent gov in our state to lose in 70, 80 years!

12. I'm going out to the Boston Seafood Restaurant in Orlando....
...to get the best fish and chips in town with my sister and brother-in-law. They are visiting from Canada so we are just going to have a nice evening out.

Let the politicians slug it out over their power plays. Bush has created a big mess and he and the repubs are going to sink or swim based on what they do in the next 36 months. I think the job of the democrats is to begin opening up investigations for all of the wrong doings that have been happening. Senator Wexler made a good start, Kerry can continue with what he has done so well in the past. I say forget about the issues that the repubs have used to divide the country and focus on those things they have done and will continue to do that are corrupt illegal and immoral. The war, corporate corruption, dealing with foreign governments on human rights volations, the listr is endless. Hold the president and the republicans accountable for every bit of corruption they pull. Truth and good does win, it just takes time and perserverance.

(Hey is anyone else having trouble with the spell checker on DU, Mine is not working)

15. Funny you should ask
Listening to Randi and it occured to me that I've always watched the inaugurations. Even Nixon and Reagan's. But not this one. I'll go somewhere that I enjoy - getting lost in rummaging at the thrift shops for neat old stuff. Just someplace where no one will bother talking about the inaugural.
