***Official Stop Feeling Sorry For Your Asses And Get To Work Thread***
OK, we're licking our wounds, shaking our heads in disbelief, some of us are considering moving to Amsterdam, some are running wild and neked through the streets of their cities blinded by the terror of 4 more years of Shrubya. Let today be our mourning period. Let us cry and scream and wonder about our future. Let us flip the finger at the TV, stay in bed under the covers hugging our pillows, or bitch to anyone who will listen. Today.

Tomorrow, we need to get our shit together. Organization, mobilization, and communication are the key words. We need to hold Shrubya and his administrations feet to the fire. We need to let them know we are watching, and while we may be the minority, at the moment, any scrw up on thier part may change that status quickly. We need to make sure that our Democratic Senators and Congresspeople grow huge sets of balls and strong vocal chords. We need to organize and mobilize to make our Democrats in DC stand up and say "NO, I DON'T THINK SO" when Shrubya tries to get his pet projects that will damage our country. We need to be vocal and ballsy as well by doing it ourselves.

Besides holding Shrubbie accountable, our first huge issue is 2006. The Congress and Senate HAVE to be taken back into our hands. We need to start now. Write letters to the editor showing screw ups by Repuglican Congresspeople and Senators. Pay attention and bring attention to thier inconsistancies. If the economy continues to tank, make sure everyone knows it's THIER job to fix it and they're not. Yes, in some cases it won't matter, and some will be safely tucked away in thier districts, but the numbers we need are do-able. Let the Democratic Leaders know we are here and ready to fight, but they need to give strong direction.

We all have a long, tough road to slog through. Let today be our pity party day. I went to bed at 4am just about in tears, and woke up at 7 hoping this was all a nightmare. It's 9am, I never knew what to wear to a pity party, so I'm not attending. I'm writting to our Democratic Leaders today. Tomorrow, hope to see you all who need that time to digest this dissapointment fired up and ready to rock.

**********

"Come along, follow me, as I lead through the darkness
As I provide just enough spark that we need, to proceed
Carry on, give me hope, give me strength, come with me, and I won't, steer you wrong Give your faith and your trust, as I guide us through the fog, to the light at the end of the tunnel
We gon fight, we gon charge, we gon stomp, we gon march through the swamp, we gon mosh through the marsh, take us right
through the doors Come on"

4. the Chimpy administration for Democrats = 1964 for Republicans
1964 was, of course, the year in which Goldwater was bitchslapped silly by LBJ in the election. A massive humiliation for the Right in the very short term, but in the long term it was a watershed moment which mobilized the Right and was the beginning of their march to power. That's because they conceded that it would be a long time before they'd have any dominance, so they decided to start from the ground up and start building a grass-roots network of think tanks, organizations, and media for the long term.

The Bush years have been our 1964. We have been building up steam, with orgs like MoveOn and Democracy for America and AAR. We've had a good momentum going and it would be counterproductive to chuck it all aside in one single night. We may or may not have won this election, and we may or may not win the next one. But this is about building up for the long-term future.
