OFFICIAL PACKERS--REDSKINS THREAD
Can I do this? I just found out I can't see it on TV, so I am counting on you DUers to keep me updated. I don't need a play by play, I don't even watch football. But others here who aren't getting it on TV might appreciate a bit of conversation about how it is going, so if you can see it, mind posting here about it a bit?

Thanks!

GO PACKERS!!!!!!!

(Seems weird to post something like this on an election forum, but this is a weird year, isn't it?)

3. Excuse me?
Have you seen the number of Packer threads on this forum already?

Better get those deleted then.

I'm no sports fan, but I have gotten a bit superstitious about everything connected to this election, even in a coincidental way.

Might I respectfully suggest you hide this thread?

alerting on the two or three others that are still over there.

It's been explained why this isn't just any old game and what it has to do with the election and yet one official thread on the game for people who can't see it couldn't be left over there?

Whatever.

What would you hold a grudge against me about anyway?

20. This isn't a vanity post.
There is a correlation between a 'skin's win and the incumbent party staying in power.

It was on all the morning talk shows this morning.

This is not really about sports.

11. Meat Packers in Green Bay
In the Green Bay Press-Gazette on Aug. 29, 1919, two weeks before the team's first organized game, George Calhoun first publicly identified the team as the "Indian Packers."

Curly Lambeau received $500 from his employer, the Indian Packing Co., for uniforms and equipment, and for use of the company's lot for practice. In exchange, Lambeau and Calhoun agreed to call the team "Packers." Early fans, many of whom were working-class citizens, immediately embraced the name, widely publicized by Calhoun.

<snip>

A packer is someone who works at a packing house, an establishment for slaughtering, processing and packing livestock into meat, meat products and byproducts. "Green Bay Packers" is the longest standing team name in NFL history.

10. GO PACK GO!!
Pack will definitely win this game. Lavar Arrington for Wash. is out and their offense is struggling. Plus with a win the Pack can get to 4-4 and be right back in the hunt for the playoffs. Favre won't let a 2-4 team get in his way of winning.

44. I thought of something
apparently the announcers are making a bit deal, calling this "the election game" etc.

This actually MIGHT have a bit of an impact for real, and here's how.

If people watching it REALLY do believe this is totally a predictor of how the election goes (and it hasn't been wrong in what? 70 something years?) then if they are bush people, they will be very discouraged. If they are Kerry people, they'll be even more pumped up and better yet, if they are leaners/undecideds/swingers/unaffiliated, it might just tip them over to Kerry for a Packer win.

All the more reason to root for the Packers, eh?

I am SO ticked off!!! First, FOX shows the stupid VIKINGS game, not my Packers. Then, after the Vikes game (SO sorry, Vikings fans... NOT!), they switched to the Packers game! YES!

They just took it back off and there is still 1 min, 44 secs left...

:grr: :grr: :grr: :grr: :grr:

111. Another Halloween loss
Edited on Sun Oct-31-04 04:29 PM by batchdem04
On 31 October 1976 the Washington Redskins were spooked by the Dallas Cowboys in a Halloween Day home game, losing 20-7 and predicting a loss for the incumbent Republicans. Two days later, on 2 November 1976, Democratic Governor Jimmy Carter of Georgia unseated President Gerald Ford (who had been appointed Vice-President after the resignation of Spiro Agnew in 1973 and became chief executive in 1974 after President Richard Nixon also resigned).
