I am SO pissed!!! DVD: Unprecedented (2000 Election)
I finally watched this documentary last night. Unbelievable. It was very well done, and did a great job of touching upon most of the issues that came up in Florida. Everything from the screwy ballots to the voter purge to intimidation at the polls to the recount fiasco to the Supreme Court to the military absentee ballots - and more.

Although there really wasn't anything new to me in this dvd - it was SO validating to watch something that showed exactly what I was seeing with disbelief during that time.

I started crying within the first 5 minutes of the movie - and cried throughout. I am so sickened by the disenfranchisement of our african american brothers and sisters - and even more sickened by the lack of outrage. Our country did NOT CARE that the (inflammatory word for "african americans") didn't get to vote. The collective outrage came for illegal absentee military ballots. Those got counted - the LEGAL votes of black americans did not, and we were ridiculed if we dared to mention any of the injustice we witnessed. Sore/Loserman is what we got yelled in our faces because we had the audacity pay attention and know we were witnessing a coup.

I weep for our country. I weep, knowing we are on the verge of Coup2 - Four Years Later. I want to believe the will of the people will prevail. My faith in our country is broken.

Everyone needs to see this movie. WE WILL NEVER FORGET. Forgiveness is not an option.

1. Eventhough
there are alot of african americans that cant vote there are also alot of other disenfranchised people as well. Lets not polarize this issue into something that will only benefit one group it needs to benefit everyone that is not allowed to vote because of a felony conviction.

3. It's not about polarizing -
And it's not JUST about african americans - however, african americans as a GROUP were systematically and with much malice singled out in 2000.

The felony conviction issue is a good one - but it is only one small part of the disenfranchisement and it's different from what I'm describing. Many african americans denied their right to vote had never even been ARRESTED - let alone convicted of a felony.

2. That's so interesting,
because I cried through the whole thing, too - and the first time I watched F9/11, I started crying when they began to show clips of the election results coming in, and I didn't stop until the movie was well over. I think that being reminded of the theft of the election triggers all of the "what if's" and the "if only's."

I will be SO glad when we can have hope for our country again (two more days, two more days...)!
