8. Just like most SUVs are for off-roading - uh-huh... yup! :)
Most people that use Gentoo do so simply so they can claim that they do. Note that I say "most"

2. lol - hey, that's not nice

I happened to use Gentoo a long time ago, found I didn't like it. I dislike their incessant advocacy (and idiocy, in many cases), in threads and IRC channels that are in no way related to Gentoo.

I'm a developer for a source based distro, but I don't advocate it, because I know it isn't for everybody. Even in my sig, I show Atari, Amiga, Linux, and BSD, but with a "Think really different" -- not advocating anything in particular, just pointing out options. Heck, I don't even badmouth Windows, for the most part.

:)

Wow - a post about me, what a concept

Now, the greedy bastards charging exorbitant rates at thrift stores, when the items were donated to them, that disturbs me :grr:

3. Anyway, in my opinion, you don't use source-based distro

for a speed advantage (though that can be arranged), but to give you complete control (in the case of SMGL, certainly MUCH more fine-grained than you will find in Gentoo) over your system.

4. Thrift stores -- would that be RHEL? Or physical thrift stores? (nt)

5. Physical ones
Like (in the US) The Salvation Army ones, the Goodwill ones, and all sorts of local and religious ones.

I went into one a few months ago, and they were asking $90.00 for a scanner that had been donated to them - if you walked two stores down, you could buy a brand new one (same model) for $49.00

6. I'd say ignorance is more like it
Oooo, shiny... electronic... HIGH TECH! It has to do with them computer things... must be EXPENSIVE!

Unless things like clothes also had unrealistic prices.

7. Yeah, but if you try to explain it, they get all uppity
rather than taking it as constructive criticism. Yeah, and they do it with clothes too.

My wife was going to pick up a jacket (that came to about waist level) asked the lady what it cost, she said $5.00 (which was really too expensive, if you ask me) - yet when she went to pay for it, they were switching cashiers. The old one told the new one she had said $5.00, but the new one pointed to the "Heavy coats" price (remember, we had a jacket) and tried to charge $15.00 for it. We didn't buy it.
