Does anyone still play MUDs?
God, I feel like megasuperdorkperson for asking, but hey... ya gotta ask ;-).

I play a MUD called Realms of Despair from time to time, and that thing alone makes me the dorkiest person I've met in a long time. I blame my freshman year roommate, as she played RoD obsessively and made me an addict. Hey, at least it's not heroin, right?

*sigh*

1. Not since college
which was more than a decade ago. I was recently wondering if those were still around.

2. I used to be _such_ an addict.
But that was years ago. I haven't played on a MUD in maybe four years, and it's been longer than that since I spent large amounts of time on them. I never really played on any very large MUD (ones with constantly more than 15-30 players can be sort of chaotic).

3. RoD has 100s on at a time
Yeah, it's definitely chaotic ;-). I stopped playing for a few years, but I had an office job last year that left me lots of unsupervised time at the computer, so... ya know. *Ahem* I can quit any time I want, ya know! ;-).

5. You did?
Yay! I once wrote a paper on the RPG subculture, but it wasn't specific to MUDs/MUSHs/whatever.... woohoo for my Anthro degree ;-).

6. I still do, and shamefully a right-wing one.
It's called Genocide and it's been around since 1992.

I started in 1993, and haven't stopped playing since. Have been banished numerous of times for my liberal views, and trying to convert a few right wing ones.

The admins are actually right-wing, but who the hell cares.

8. well first..
it's a player killing mud, and the second is that most of the players espouses right-wing politics and we *do* have tolerant liberals here..

We've managed to convince a couple to look at someone else other than Chimpy McCokespoon.

Good luck.

9. ahhh, a pkill MUD
see, that's why I like RoD so much -- you have a choice about pkilling. You can stay as a peaceful and just kill game mobs. But I will give it a try and look you up ;-).

10. I would if I could..
My local BBS crashed about five years ago...

Aaarrgghh! I was a level twelve wizard on Swords of Chaos! Don't you hate it when crap like that happens?

I'd love to get back to the old D&D games. My son and his friends seem to play *Grand Theft Auto*. It isn't the same; those games depend on fast reflexes, not on problem-solving talents.

11. MUDS/MOOs/MUSH
Okay...I'll don my megasuperdorkperson cap. I've played on a few MUD's for years now, and I dont think I will stop. Yet, I dont play as much as I did when I was an undergrad. Ah, I miss the days and weekends of nothing to do and 13 hour long on times, such fun bashing monsters and questing. (I was really bored back then! LOL!).

It's too bad that no one would make a "whistlebutt" RPG MUD. A char. could just have all sorts of fun whomping little whistlebutt imps and trolls. :-)
