2. I'm 280, and without Nachos
I was heavy, but had gotten into the habit of exercising, and my weight was down about 50 pounds from its previous peak of 285. (I'm 5'8" so I should weigh around 145-180.)

Then my Grandmother began to fail in health and I became her full-time caregiver. Between the lack of sleep and inability to get out and exercise, I put back on those 50 pounds.

Well, she passed away a few days ago. The treadmill is coming out of storage and going into her room, soon to be converted to an all-purpose room.

Lots of people -- even lots of people here at DU -- think obesity comes from laziness. I beg to differ. There are many ways of working oneself to the bone that put fat on those bones.

3. While I agree with your post...
...I have gained in recent years thanks to overwork and no time to get out, the post was a joke/copycat of the "400 posts" thread.

I'm really 6'2" and about 240 lb. Overweight, but not gargantuan.

11. Same here, UdoKier...
6' 5", 250 lbs. All from overwork, no play, and late hours (more overwork).

Like you, not overweight, but I would feel more comfortable dunking some of the extra.

26. I'm so sorry to hear about your grandma
I hope you're coping okay. I had to do the same thing caring for mine in her last months. It was horrible but I'm so glad I was there.
I'm sure she appreciated you being there with her. That means more than anything and you'll cherish those memories for the rest of your life.

You'll lose that weight. I truly think stress plays a huge part in metabolism. Caring for a dying relative is beyond what most people can handle but you stuck in there. It's no wonder that your body just shut down. You need time to grieve and when you're ready, get back on the treadmill. Give yourself a break, you've been through a lot.

I'll be thinking of you. :pals:

6. Look, absolutely no intention to denigrate your post
or you, but I've always had exactly the opposite problem. I'm 33, and since I was 12 years old, I've been the same height and weight--6'4", 145#. I have always had a negative self image as a "beanpole", and only in the past 2 or 3 years have I become somewhat comfortable with my own body image. I think it's quite normal for everyone.

15. SKINNY!
:P

Hey, if you can't fuck with the sleep deprived Lounge geologist on a Saturday morning, who CAN you fuck with, and when?

Me, I'm under 200 pounds for the first time since high school. Had been a steady 225 or so for more than, ahem, a *decade*. Started eating better around a year ago, and then not eating much at all the past few weeks - fall depression setting in. I weighed in at 194 this morning. I haven't seen the scale stop in that region for so long. I should try to keep it off. I must be dead fucking sexy, now. ;-)

20. Thanks, lb
But no thanks at all for using that "I" word and making me have to go into the nether regions of p2p to scaver up a copy of that godawful Rod Stewart song from the 80s to unseat the earworm!

GAK!

13. How do you JUST realize something like that?
If you're a guy, the alarm should go off at 200!

And if you're a chick, the alarm should go off at 150!

How are you okay with this?!

17. That's an excellent question
One day I just woke up and I was fat. At least it feels that way. Guess I just wasn't checking the alarm clock, since my personal appearance wasn't that important to me (it's still not, really, though there are now health issues to consider).

What the hell is that supposed to mean? 150 is not really that heavy, especially if you are a tall woman, er... chick. :eyes:

28. The formula for healthy BMI
100lbs at 5'0" and add 5lbs for every inch after that.

Unless you are over 5'10", 150 is too much.

31. This is what 150 looks like, /expletive deleted/
Edited on Mon Nov-01-04 09:08 AM by janesez

Liv Tyler, who says she likes the way she looks better at the high end of her fluctuating weight. She weighs in at 125 at the low end and 150 at the high end.

So why don't you take your one-size-fits-all-women judgement and stick it...somewhere that won't get this post deleted. Thank you.

unless you can't bend down to tie you shoe laces or can't see you feet while standing up. If you can't get thru the kitchen door to get to the fridge.....well, then you're obese and need to call Richard Simmons ASAP!
