If you like to read 'series' mysteries, I strongly recommend this series:
http://www.stevensaylor.com/RomaSubRosa.html

You can find 'em at Barnes & Noble or at amazon.com or at the library.

Anyway, I just finished the last one in the Sub-Rosa series and they were GREAT. (You might not think you would like them, but a friend insisted that I read the first one, and I thought it was an awesome series.)

So I'm just saying AFTER the election, it's good, enjoyable reading. All are in paperback now except the very last one.

1. They are a great read. I've only had time to read the first three, but if
you like spy stories and ancient history these are stories that offer a break from the "usual."

2. I was addicted to them after I read the 1st one.
Yes, they are better than your run-of-the-mill mysteries.

Glad someone else here has read them too!

3. Thanks. I am always looking for a good mystery writer
whom I have not read. I will check him out. I don't think I have read him before.

4. BTW, the subject matter of the mysteries in the books
revolve around true events of the time, but the writer makes it all very compelling and holds your interest. You will be amazed at the stuff you will learn of the time. (I know I was.)

Plenty, plenty of historical political matters in the books too, which I found really interesting.

5. I hve to drive 60 miles in either direction to
find a bookstore. Huntsville, AL has a Books-A-Million where I find most of my books. I will try the local library but it is limited. I am intrigued now. Sounds like my kind of writer.

6. I second the recommendation
I love historical mysteries, and this is the best of the ones set in Rome.

7. Really good--Gordianus Rocks!
I took four of the series to Italy for my three week vacation and ended up readig them over and over...enjoyable both for the classic mystery style (twists, false leads, etc.) and the snippets of historical info. I became very much enthused with the period of Roman history Saylor covers with this series reading Collen McCollough--I seriously recommend her if you have free time to read (those books are serious and long--but addictive!)

8. Yes he does!
So, I should read a Colleen McCollough book now that I've read the Saylor series?

Which McCollough should I start with, Vixengrl?

PS--I'm so jealous of your vacation to Italy. I sooo want to go to rome now!
